🌿 Women Convening 2026 🌿
From 2–4 June 2026, the Myanmar Ethnic Women Refugee Organisation (MEWRO) brought together women leaders and representatives of Refugee Women-Led Organisations (RWLOs) at Serendah River Retreat for a meaningful gathering focused on connection, learning, reflection, and renewal.
The convening created a safe and supportive space for women to share experiences, strengthen networks, build solidarity, and explore collective solutions to challenges affecting women and girls in refugee communities.
A key highlight of the convening was the workshop, "From Sharing to Shaping Solutions," facilitated by Michelle Fong, former Head of GBV & Child Protection Unit, UNHCR Malaysia. Through interactive discussions and group exercises, participants reflected on community needs, explored the characteristics of strong and impactful programmes, and developed ideas for future initiatives that promote leadership, protection, and empowerment.
Beyond the workshop, participants had the opportunity to rest, reconnect with nature, strengthen relationships, and recharge alongside fellow women leaders.
At MEWRO, we believe that when women are provided with safe spaces, opportunities for leadership, and strong support networks, they become powerful agents of change within their communities.
Special thanks to Michelle Fong for sharing her expertise and guidance, to all RWLO representatives for their valuable participation and leadership, and to the Serendah River Retreat family for their warm hospitality, care, and support throughout our stay.
We would also like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to an anonymous friend of MEWRO for their generous cash contribution and continued encouragement of our work.
