Today, MEWRO was deeply honored to welcome our long-time friends from Westgate Refugee Support to our office.

We were also happy to have Dr. Andrew and his beloved wife, Dr. Charis, with us at the office during their visit for another project discussion, and we are thankful for their continued support for MEWRO.

It was a meaningful time of sharing about MEWRO’s journey, our work as a refugee led organisation, and the challenges and hopes of the refugee communities we serve.

We are truly grateful for their generous cash donation, given with love, prayers, and best wishes. Their kindness and solidarity will directly support our ongoing work with refugee women and families.

What makes this moment even more special is that Westgate Refugee Support was also the very first group to give a cash donation to MEWRO when we were founded in 2018. After so many years, to receive their support again is a powerful reminder that genuine solidarity continues across time and distance.

Thank you for walking alongside us and believing in refugee-led community work. Together, we continue building hope, resilience, and stronger futures.

MEWRO Mid-Year Review Meeting 2026

Today, MEWRO held our Mid-Year Review Meeting to reflect on the work we have carried out during the first half of 2026. It was an important space to review our achievements, challenges, and lessons learned in supporting refugee women and girls through case management, emergency support, trainings, and community activities.

We also reviewed our progress, financial updates, staff performance, and discussed our plans and priorities for the next six months to strengthen our impact and improve our support systems.

A special thank you to Katie and F***y from Tenaganita for taking the time to join us today. We truly appreciate your presence, thoughtful insights, encouragement, and continued support. Your partnership and solidarity mean a great deal to us as we work together to strengthen protection and empowerment for refugee women and girls.

We are also grateful to our board members, board advisors, EC members, staff, partner NGOs, CBOs, and UNHCR for their continued support, guidance, and commitment. Together, we continue working towards protection, empowerment, and dignity for refugee women and girls.

🌿 MEWRO EC Members Retreat

On 17th June 2026, 14 MEWRO Executive Committee members came together for a meaningful retreat at the Botanical Garden.

The day was filled with sightseeing, laughter, a shared BBQ lunch, and a staycation to relax and recharge. Beyond our responsibilities as community leaders, this retreat reminded us of the importance of rest, connection, and collective care.

Women leaders carry many responsibilities in supporting their communities, and taking time to pause and care for our well-being is also an important part of strong and sustainable leadership. Through this retreat, we strengthened our bonds, created joyful memories, and renewed our energy together.

Thank you to all EC members for your participation and for making this retreat meaningful and memorable.

🌿 Women Convening 2026 🌿

From 2–4 June 2026, the Myanmar Ethnic Women Refugee Organisation (MEWRO) brought together women leaders and representatives of Refugee Women-Led Organisations (RWLOs) at Serendah River Retreat for a meaningful gathering focused on connection, learning, reflection, and renewal.

The convening created a safe and supportive space for women to share experiences, strengthen networks, build solidarity, and explore collective solutions to challenges affecting women and girls in refugee communities.

A key highlight of the convening was the workshop, "From Sharing to Shaping Solutions," facilitated by Michelle Fong, former Head of GBV & Child Protection Unit, UNHCR Malaysia. Through interactive discussions and group exercises, participants reflected on community needs, explored the characteristics of strong and impactful programmes, and developed ideas for future initiatives that promote leadership, protection, and empowerment.

Beyond the workshop, participants had the opportunity to rest, reconnect with nature, strengthen relationships, and recharge alongside fellow women leaders.

At MEWRO, we believe that when women are provided with safe spaces, opportunities for leadership, and strong support networks, they become powerful agents of change within their communities.

Special thanks to Michelle Fong for sharing her expertise and guidance, to all RWLO representatives for their valuable participation and leadership, and to the Serendah River Retreat family for their warm hospitality, care, and support throughout our stay.

We would also like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to an anonymous friend of MEWRO for their generous cash contribution and continued encouragement of our work.
