About Makara Jyothi:

On MakaraJyothi, the sacred jewels will be brought in three boxes from Padalam King Palace. Swami Ayyappan will be adorned with 'Thiruvabharana' in the evening.

Then Maha Deeparadhana Aarthi will be done to Swami Ayyappa. At this time Makaravilakku will appear thrice at Ponnambalamedu.

Everyone will chant 'Swamiyae Saranam Ayyappa' with great devotion on seeing the Makara Jyothi.

The Makaravilakku can be seen from Sannidhanam, Pandithavalam, Pulmedu, Hilltop, Chalakayam, Attathodu, Saramkuthi, Neelimala, Marakootam.
