A little announcement ✨️

The FLC will be closed temporarily from 1 August until 13 September 2026 as to make way for an upcoming exhibition.

We will make announcements for any programs available during this hibernation period. Stamps are NOT available until further notice.

Sunday fun day with Forest Learning Centre here at Perdana Botanical Gardens 🌳

A great turn up! Last Sunday we hosted our very first free nature walk in the garden and about 50 participants joined the tour 🌞 We learnt about some of the common plants in the garden such as the oak leaf fern, monkey pot, cannnon ball; and including our native trees like the mata lembu and kapur. After the tour, we headed back to the learning centre and gave a short tour of our ongoing exhibition about forest fruits of Malaysia.

We are open on other days except those dates at these hours for the month of July-August:

Check out what we did last month! On 12 & 13 June 2026, the Forest House Conservation & Forest Learning Centre participated in a workshop organised by International Media Support (IMS) and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) on climate change disinformation in Malaysia.

The workshop was both theoretical and practical where we gained skills from a diverse group of facilitators on topics such as fact-checking, media literacy, and stories from local context. It was also a good networking platform as we met journalists, researchers, and amazing people doing great community-driven projects!

We were too immersed in the workshop that we missed taking more photos to share here lah. Haiya! We are also missing these incredibly talented and passionate ladies from our working group ✨

Thank you IMS & UKM for orgazining this program! We hope to participate in more of these knowledge sharing and upskilling programs like these.

🌿✨ Fruits come in various shapes and sizes. Some are small and light while others are big and heavy. They can appear in the form of pods, aggregate clusters, or as singular fruits. In our Malaysian tropical rainforest, we even have our very own unique flying fruits! Come and learn about the diverse fruits from the forest at our mini exhibition this July 🌳

Have you seen me ❓

Have you seen these plants in your backyard or at Perdana Botanical Garden? From the cracks between the ground to the wire fencing by the roadside, these bright spots in our urban landscapes can be hard to miss 👀

In this miniseries, we will be exploring the relationship between these fantastic florals and their pollinators 🐝

[RECAP] Biodiversity Talk: Collection and Connection

Last month we held a Biodiversity Talk: Collection and Connection, a sharing session on some of the most weird and mysterious critters in Malaysia--zombie ants and moths! The talk was moderated by Dr Wan Faridah Akmal Jusoh, her lab researcher line-ups from the School of Science, Monash University Malaysia.

Joined by over 50 participants in total we started off with Katie Vynal, a visiting researcher under Fulbright-National Geographic program, who brought us Inside the World of Zombie Ants 🐜 where we learnt about the species dynamics between tropical carpenter ants and the parasitic Ophiocordyceps fungi within Mulu National Park. At the end of session, we get to observe specimens of zombie ants under a microscope!

Following a short break, entomologist Sofwan Badr then gave us A Visual Tour of Malaysian Moths, where everyone explored the taxonomy of Malaysian Moths. Sofwan also emphasised the importance of identifying and the preserving these nocturnal pollinators to benefit further research in the field 🔬

We would like to thank Dr Wan and the School of Science, Monash University Malaysia for organising this lovely and insightful knowledge sharing session on our incredible biodiversity we have here right in our backyard.

Harmony in nature, harmonize with nature!

Last Sunday we hosted a nature-inspired music workshop here at Forest Learning Centre with Az Samad.

After brief introductions, we were taken into the park to focus in on sounds around us. Az emphasised the importance of community within the music space! Despite having little to no music background, everyone present was brought together from an appreciation for it 🎶.

Once inspiration was gathered, we headed back to write down moments in life that were impactful to us. Everyone was then placed into groups in order to compose a short score using instruments gathered from the garden🌿 To wrap up, we performed our pieces and reflected on what we had learned.

This workshop officially ends the programmes for the first half of the year. We will be taking a break in June 2026 to recuperate, hibernate, and plan a whole lot of exciting things for you!
