ICOMOS Malaysia successfully held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 9 May 2026, bringing together members and heritage practitioners in a meaningful session of reflection and planning.

The AGM provided an important platform to review our achievements over the past year, discuss ongoing initiatives, and set strategic directions for the future. We also welcomed valuable insights and active participation from members, reaffirming our shared commitment towards safeguarding Malaysiaโ€™s cultural heritage.

We are also pleased to announce the appointment of the new Executive Board members for the upcoming term. Their leadership and expertise will play a vital role in guiding ICOMOS Malaysiaโ€™s continued efforts in heritage conservation, sustainable management, and advocacy.

ICOMOS Malaysia Announces Executive Board for 2026โ€“2028 Term

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia โ€” The International Council on Monuments and Sites Malaysia (ICOMOS Malaysia) is pleased to announce its newly constituted Executive Board for the 2026โ€“2028 term, following the organisationโ€™s recent Annual General Meeting on 9 May 2026.

The newly elected Board brings together a multidisciplinary group of professionals, academics, practitioners, and heritage advocates representing architecture, archaeology, conservation, cultural tourism, planning, interpretation, museums, historic urban landscapes, and related fields. The Board reflects ICOMOS Malaysiaโ€™s continued commitment to strengthening heritage conservation practice, professional collaboration, and public engagement at both national and international levels.

Leading the organisation as President is Faisal Abd Rahman, alongside Ar. (Dr.) Mohd Zulhemlee An as Deputy President and Dr. Shaiful Idzwan Shahidan as Secretary General.

In its new term, ICOMOS Malaysia will continue to advance professional discourse, technical engagement, heritage advocacy, and community awareness in line with the principles and objectives of ICOMOS internationally. The organisation also aims to strengthen Malaysiaโ€™s role within regional and global heritage networks, particularly in relation to cultural landscapes, living heritage, climate resilience, cultural tourism, and sustainable heritage management.

The new Board will also oversee preparations and strategic engagements leading towards the 22nd ICOMOS General Assembly and Scientific Symposium (GA2026), which will be hosted in Kuching, Sarawak from 17โ€“24 October 2026 โ€” marking the first time the global assembly will be held in Southeast Asia.

Speaking on behalf of the new Board, President Faisal Abd Rahman emphasised that the coming term represents an important opportunity to further strengthen collaboration across disciplines and institutions while expanding public appreciation for heritage as a living and evolving ecosystem of culture, place, community, and memory.

โ€œICOMOS Malaysia remains committed to promoting heritage conservation not only as the protection of monuments and sites, but as a shared responsibility that connects people, identity, sustainability, and the future of our living heritage,โ€ he said.

ICOMOS Malaysia looks forward to continued collaboration with government agencies, academic institutions, professional bodies, civil society organisations, local communities, and international partners in advancing heritage conservation and stewardship in Malaysia and the wider Asia-Pacific region.
