The person behind that random scam call or message might not be a criminal by choice. They could be one of the ๐จ๐ฏ๐ž๐ซ ๐Ÿ‘๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ,๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ ๐ฉ๐ž๐จ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ž trapped in cyber-scam operations. Aligned with the UNODC's article "Forced to Scam," human trafficking has evolved into an $18+ billion illicit industries. While movie myths teach us to look for violent abductions and physical chains, today's reality is that job seekers go through professional interviews and sign 6-month contracts for fake customer service roles only to end up trapped in scam compounds by debt bo***ge and confiscated passports.

In highlighting this year's theme, "๐“๐ซ๐š๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ž๐ ๐๐ž๐ก๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐’๐œ๐š๐ฆ," protecting ourselves and others starts with unlearning the fiction.

This World Day Against Child Labour, Global Shepherds joins the International Labour Organization (ILO) in championing their global campaign slogan: โ€˜Fair play for children, decent work for adults.โ€™

Child labour is not just an isolated issue, it is deeply tied to vulnerable families, a lack of social safety nets, and poor working conditions for adults. When adults have access to fair wages and decent livelihoods, children can stay where they belong: in schools and playground spaces.

From roots grounded in faith, to hearts filled with compassion and hands extended in love, every logo reflected our shared mission to empower lives with love, respect, and gratitude. From the purity of the lily to the resilience of the deeply rooted rose, we were reminded of our calling to grow in virtue, remain grounded in purpose, and bloom together in unity despite our differences.

Much like the climb up Kulanga Hills, with its uncertain paths, steep challenges, and moments of doubt, we were reminded that we never walk alone. We are deeply rooted in accompaniment, built on trust, patience, and meaningful presence. And like Dorothy journeying along the Yellow Brick Road in search of the Wizard of Oz, our own path is not always easy, but it is purposeful, beautiful, and deeply fulfilling when we embrace our differences and walk together.

Human trafficking looks different today than it did a decade ago. Itโ€™s evolving quickly in our digital world, and we need to keep up.

On 13 February 2026, AirAsia Foundation brought together frontliners across ASEAN at RedQ to explore one important question: How is human trafficking changing in the age of technology? ๐Ÿ’ป๐Ÿšจ

We were joined by dedicated representatives from Tenaganita, Global Shepherds, IJM Malaysia, SUHAKAM (Human Rights Commission of Malaysia), Project Liber8, LIFT International, Our Journey, Freedom Ports Alliance (FPA), and Chab Dai. Together with AirAsiaโ€™s own frontliners, including Cabin Crew, Security, and Ground Staff, they shared powerful stories and insights that deepened our understanding of this complex issue.

Hereโ€™s what we learned:
โ‰ซ Trafficking is moving online. Exploitation now appears in new forms such as fake job offers, online scams, and social media recruitment.
โ‰ซ Tactics are getting smarter. Traffickers are using AI and digital tools to hide their tracks, making victims harder to identify.
โ‰ซ Old dangers remain. While scam trafficking dominates headlines, labour and s*x trafficking continue every day, and many victims still struggle to access help.

These insights are already shaping action within AirAsia. We are refreshing our internal anti-trafficking training and exploring technology-based, victim-centred approaches to make our response stronger and more compassionate.

Ending trafficking is not a task for one group alone. Real progress happens when communities and businesses keep their eyes open and act responsibly to protect those who are most vulnerable. ๐Ÿค๐Ÿป
