On 20 May 2026, the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) delegation, led by YTM Datoโ Seri DiRaja Tan Sri Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz binti Almarhum Sultan Abdul Halim Muโadzam Shah, Tunku Temenggong Kedah, National Chairperson of the MRC, undertook a courtesy call with H.E. San Lwin, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The discussion focused on strengthening cooperation between ASEAN and National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in supporting more effective disaster preparedness, emergency response and community resilience across Southeast Asia.
MRC highlighted the role of National Societies as auxiliaries to public authorities in humanitarian action and the importance of coordinated efforts with ASEAN to support timely and effective responses during crises.
The meeting also explored opportunities to further institutionalise engagement between ASEAN and National Societies, including potential ASEAN participation in the upcoming 2026 Southeast Asia Red Cross Red Crescent Leaders Meeting.
This engagement reflects a continued commitment to advancing a more coordinated and future-ready humanitarian architecture in Southeast Asia, anchored on stronger ASEAN Red Cross Red Crescent collaboration to better serve and protect vulnerable communities.
