When people compare Malaysia's fuel price with countries like the United States, they often look only at the price per litre.⁣

But affordability is about more than the number on the pump.⁣
⁣
It is about the relationship between fuel costs and household income.⁣
⁣
For many families raising autistic or neurodivergent children, transportation is not optional.⁣
⁣
Many parents travel regularly for:⁣
• Therapy sessions⁣
• Medical appointments⁣
• Special education⁣
• Skills training⁣
• Community programmes⁣
• Employment support⁣
⁣
As autistic children become teenagers and adults, transport needs often continue for many years.⁣
⁣
Every increase in transport costs also increases the cost of groceries, daily necessities, services and healthcare.⁣
⁣
These additional costs place greater pressure on families who are already managing higher-than-average living expenses.⁣
⁣
At 𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐦 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐬𝐢𝐚 (𝐀𝐑𝐌), we believe discussions about fuel pricing should not focus only on economics.⁣
⁣
They should also consider the real impact on families, caregivers and people with disabilities.⁣
⁣
Public policy is most effective when it balances fiscal sustainability with the everyday realities faced by ordinary Malaysians.⁣
⁣
Because affordability isn't measured by the price at the pump.⁣
⁣
It is measured by how much of a family's income is needed just to keep life moving.⁣

For many families of autistic adults, this question quietly lingers in their hearts.

After years of therapy, education and support, what happens when adulthood begins? What comes after age 18? How can autistic adults continue learning, working, participating in society and living with dignity?

Many of us have been following the recent news involving a student with shock and sadness.⁣

Our thoughts are with the victim, their family, and everyone affected.⁣
⁣
As discussions continue online, we'd like to gently remind everyone that 𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐦 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐦 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫 (𝐀𝐒𝐃) is not a predictor of violent behaviour.⁣
⁣
One person's alleged actions should never define an entire community.⁣
⁣
We've also noticed many comments mixing together autism, ADHD, Asperger syndrome, and ASD Levels 1, 2, and 3. These are different concepts, and misunderstandings can unintentionally spread misinformation and reinforce stereotypes.⁣
⁣
At 𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐦 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐬𝐢𝐚 (𝐀𝐑𝐌), we believe the best response is not fear - but understanding.⁣

What happens when autistic individuals become adults?

How can they continue learning and growing?

Can they find meaningful work?

Can they live with dignity and increasing independence?

Who will support them in the future?

These questions are shared by thousands of families across Malaysia.

Autism Resource Malaysia (ARM) was established to help create answers.

Not through a single programme, facility, or service, but through the development of a sustainable ecosystem that supports autistic and neurodivergent individuals throughout adulthood and beyond.
