There will come a day, according to my Dr, that I may very likely have a total knee replacement. I am resisting the op and I am hopeful that if the time comes, I have of these (perhaps 4 - 5 generations more advanced).

I picked this up from The Economist this morning.

Are our fears of the impact of smartphones and social media on children's education founded?

The next question we really need to ask is: what about AI's impact on our children's education?

Something to think about.

“The pandemic may have passed, but some impacts remain: rates of absence are still much higher than they were before lessons went remote, for instance. And newer worries have emerged, too.

Many people fear that smartphones and social media are ruining young people’s attention spans and distracting them from schoolwork.

Policymakers hope that the latest tests will show scores ticking back up. If they have fallen any further, governments will have a big problem on their hands.”

I think this is a very interesting development to seriously consider and think through how we are deploying AI to the younger student, and is there a rush to do so. The Mayor is right to emphasise that the young students need human connection, and I agree that we should not trade that off for the sale of user licenses of AI applications or any applications for that matter.

The ban will last for one year and affect 600,000 students.

How is this for AI development?

The bigger questions are: Who are these "AI teachers", and who is behind them? What are they teaching, and what's the role (if any) left for human teachers?

Perhaps the biggest question is whether it's for enlightenment or just views and clicks for monetisation.

We have to ask ourselves if listening (and watching them) helps make us better people, or if it's just inspiration for the moment? What is the true spiritual quest?
