Now showing on Netflix worldwide, Pendekar Awang - the fatal end of Captain Syers. Lots of folks were unhappy that i escaped in the prequel Mat Kilau, so i was less fortunate in this new sequel. The film is very much an Islamic narrative, so my dear non-Muslim friends... if u cant swallow the beginning then skip to the last 35minutes (Final Battle Scene) to see me in action... and try again to watch from the beginning on another day 😉
Alright, there's a lot to be said about this film. A trilogy could be written about the drama, the blood, sweat and tears behind the scenes of this picture, which I'm going to keep the details for another day. My good friend Areel Abu Bakar was the Director of the first part of the film, up until the final battle and sadly he didnt have the chance to oversee the final edit. It was a great pleasure working with you brother, may we work together again one day... The final battle was directed by another good friend (Action Director) Reza Shukor and under supervision of the Creative Producer Shahruddin Dali. Big thanks to Reza and his team for guiding my final duel with Awang.
My wife Nabyla Feyaerts was the Head of Casting Department, and the days I wasn't acting i stepped in as Cast Coordinator. Big thanks also to my bro Eddie Persia for assisting Nabyla n me as fulltime cast coordinator. My Talent Agency Fretwork Productions wana thank all our talents for their passion and commitment. All of you gave sincere and outstanding performances, however small your roles were. My friends Sathis Varan Hilal Azman Wanta Kere Viviane Mehlhardt Ayawan Musafir Singgah Hammam Radwan Tok Bat J***t Krishna Kumar Mohd Zainal Mohd Isa Danish Di Maria and many more amazing talents n dear friends, not to forget my buddy the late Jeff Hassan who i shot in cold blood in a village market square, Al Fatihah...
This story covers a moment of the Resistance against British Colonial Rule, when the British killed many Malay spiritual leaders in an attempt to quell the rebellion... And especially the final battle scene reminds me of the current struggle of Palestinians & Lebanese against Zionist Colonial Rule. The faith. The determination. The readiness to die in battle. The sacrifices. The cowardice use of mass murder- weapons like bombs, cannons n heavy machine guns by the Oppressors. My Indian soldiers, who were historically antagonized for serving in the British military, were humans after all, once i slapped them in their face they woke up and realised they were fighting for a devil's cause. But only after losing most of their brothers who as they say in Bahasa Malaysia: 'died like frogs'.
Big shout out to my dear friend Akma Suriati Awang and her team for awesome costume designs and to Abang Musa aka Mukhsalmina Ismail and his team for all the amazing set designs and props. Your hard work really made us actors enjoy each scene!
Big shout out to my friends and fellow actors; but namely my fellow antagonist crew aka The Mercenaries: the legendary Ruzaidi Abd Rahman Rahman as the traitor Jalak Pangkor! The great Amerul Affendi as Tobah with his Hammer! The handsome Andy Teh Kim Huat as Sachai! The skilled Saiful Wazien as Samut! And the coolest Izzul Faiz Idrus aka John Bear as Sitong! Since pre-pro, our antagonist team spend lots of time together at the horse ranch and cant wait to meet up again and take our horses on another ride together! Sweet memories!
