The final set piece for the Malaysia Primary School Band Festival 2026 has been released.

Tepuk Amai-Amai, composed by Lim Yu-Yao, completes the full set of commissioned works for this year’s festival.

Inspired by the beloved Malaysian children’s folk song, this piece brings playful rhythms and vibrant colours that reflect the spirit and energy of young musicians.

We hope bands will enjoy exploring this joyful work as they prepare for MPSBF 2026.

We are delighted to announce that the first set piece for the Malaysia Primary School Band Festival 2026 (MPSBF2026) has officially been released.

Burung Kakak Tua, composed by Malaysian composer Isaac CHIA, who is currently based in France, will be featured as one of the festival’s set works.

This lively and charming piece draws inspiration from the well-known traditional tune and has been thoughtfully arranged to suit young band musicians.

We hope participants, educators, and music lovers will enjoy this exciting new work!

🎉 Happy Chinese New Year! 🧧✨

We are pleased to announce that minor revisions have been made to the Malaysia Primary School Band Festival 2026 (MPSBF 2026) Handbook.

One of the key updates in Version 1.1 (and subsequent versions) is the introduction of a new subdivision under the Young Band category:

🎶 Young Band (Mixed)
This subdivision is introduced to include bands featuring the instrumentation of Recorder and/or Pianica combined with Woodwind, Brass and Percussion instruments.

This enhancement aims to provide greater inclusivity and flexibility for developing primary school bands, while maintaining the artistic and educational standards of MPSBF.

We are proud to announce the launch of the Malaysia Primary School Band Festival 2026, jointly organised with SJKC Chung Kwo Kuala Lumpur, marking our 4th consecutive year of bringing primary school bands from across Malaysia together through music 🎶🇲🇾

The festival will comprise both competition and workshop segments, featuring 2 divisions: Young Band and Advanced Band. Three composers will be commissioned to write original set pieces inspired by Malaysian local folk songs. A newly introduced Appreciation Award will be presented to recognise individual who play a key supporting role in the operation, development, and continuity of a school band.

We look forward to welcoming primary school bands nationwide to be part of this musical journey once again.
