Pusaka PUSAKA ~ Tradition, Culture, Ideas

Pusaka is a non-governmental organisation dedicated to supporting the viability of traditional Malaysian art forms such as Wayang Kulit, Mak Yong, Main Puteri, Manora and Kuda Kepang. Pusaka works closely with cultural practitioners to organise performances and youth training projects, as well as to document cultural traditions. While ensuring the viability and independence of cultural traditions

at the community level, Pusaka strives to engage a wider audience in understanding and appreciating these traditions -- locally, nationally and internationally.

In light of the current renewed interest in the Rukunegara, we invite you to pick up a copy of 'Rukunegara: A Brief Introduction' by Eddin Khoo, Founder of PUSAKA, and revisit the ideas and moments that shaped our national principles.

'Rukunegara: A Brief Introduction' is not intended to be an authoritative history or interpretation of the Rukunegara. It seeks to provide a series of impressions and weave a narrative of the events and deliberations that went into the making of the Rukunegara, our national principles.

From the founder of The Diplomat and Mekong Review comes a new magazine that promises to break new ground in Southeast Asian literary culture.

Yellow is dedicated to bringing the best and most exciting writing from the region. It features fiction, nonfiction and poetry from award-winning as well as emerging writers from Southeast Asia and beyond.

Published twice yearly, each issue will focus on a topic or theme. The theme of the premier edition is ‘Parents’. Twelve regional writers with stories about their parents and what they mean to them.


Minh Bui Jones is the founder and editor of Yellow and the publisher of Bui Jones. Previously he was the founding editor of The Diplomat, an international magazine on Asian current affairs, and Mekong Review, a quarterly magazine on Asian literature. Bui Jones has been a journalist, editor and publisher for more than 30 years. He has worked for Melbourne University Press, Asia Times Online, the Sydney Morning Herald and SBS-TV. He has served as a judge for the ASEAN Fiction Prize and the Moore Prize for Human Rights Writing.

PUSAKA is proud to be part of Spill the Ink!, a programme of literary conversations and book launches as part of KL Festival 2026.

Under the festival theme “Memory and Tomorrow”, Spill the Ink! explores memory, power, and the future of storytelling in Malaysia and beyond. The programme features the launch of a new regional literary magazine Yellow, the republication of one of the earliest Malay novels, a poetry collection rooted in myth and feminine power, and a conversation on how digital platforms are reshaping reading culture. This is what literature looks like when it refuses to stand still.
