Ready to have your spa officially rated by MOTAC?

Getting your spa rated may seem like a lengthy process, but knowing what to prepare can make it much easier. Here is a simple guide to help you get started.

STEP 1 | Check Your Eligibility
Your spa or reflexology centre must be a registered business with a valid business licence. Make sure your premises also meet the required minimum size and facility requirements.

STEP 2 | Prepare Your Documents
Have the necessary documents ready, some of them include:
✔ Business Registration Certificate (SSM)
✔ Premises Licence from the local authority
✔ Staff qualification certificates and relevant therapy certifications
✔ Treatment menu and pricing list
✔ Photos of your facilities and treatment rooms

STEP 3 | Submit Your Application
Applications are submitted to MOTAC (Kementerian Pelancongan, Seni dan Budaya). You may contact your nearest MOTAC state office or refer to the official MOTAC portal for the application process.

STEP 4 | Facility Inspection
A group of inspectors that includes the representatives from MOTAC, PBT, the association and Bomba will make the arrangement to visit your premises to assess key areas including hygiene, facilities, signage and service standards.

STEP 5 | Receive Your Classification Certificate
Once approved, you will receive your official star rating certificate, recognising your spa’s compliance with the required standards. If your premises have to be reinspected, MOTAC will advise you on the next course of action.

AMSPA members, we are here to support you along the way.

Choosing the Right Spa Consultant Can Shape the Future of Your Business

A good consultant does more than help you design a beautiful space. They provide strategic guidance that can save you time, money, and costly mistakes. The wrong advice, however, can lead to unnecessary expenditure, inefficient operations, poor space planning, or investments that don't deliver long-term value.

Before engaging a spa consultant, ask yourself:

❗ Do they have proven experience in the spa and wellness industry?
❗ Do they understand spa operations, customer journey, and treatment workflow?
❗ Can they advise on licensing, compliance, SOPs, staffing, training, and operational efficiency?
❗ Do they recommend solutions based on your business goals and budget, rather than simply selling products or following trends?
❗ Can they provide references or showcase successful spa projects they have worked on?

Remember, the most expensive consultant isn't always the best, and the cheapest option can become the most costly if mistakes need to be corrected later.

The right consultant should help you:

✅ Optimise your investment
✅ Improve operational efficiency
✅ Create a seamless guest experience
✅ Build a sustainable and profitable business
✅ Avoid costly redesigns and unnecessary expenses

Did you know that many AMSPA members are also highly experienced spa consultants with impressive years of hands-on expertise in spa development, operations, training, wellness concepts, and business strategy? Their industry knowledge has helped shape successful spa businesses across Malaysia and the region.

Whether you're launching your first spa or elevating an established business, seeking guidance from experienced professionals can make all the difference.

Invest in expertise. Build with confidence. Grow with purpose.
