Harris, an attorney who wished to capture in a professional club the same friendly spirit he had felt in the small towns of his youth. The Rotary name derived from the early practice of rotating meetings among members' offices. The R

otary Club of Greater Kuala Lumpur is the first merged Rotary Club in D3300, Malaysia. We were chartered on the 9th June 2011 by merging the RC KL North, RC Brickfields and RC Lembah Damansara. The Rotary Club of Kuala Lumpur North was originally admitted to membership in Rotary International on the 9th June 1987 and had the membership ID # of 24727 and 13 members, The Rotary Club of Brickfields was originally admitted to membership in Rotary International on the 24th May 1994 and had the membership ID # of 30167 and 17 members and The Rotary Club of Lembah Damansara was originally admitted to membership in Rotary International on the 14th May 2001, and had the membership ID # of 55581 and 9 members. The longest serving Charter Member is PP Dr Siva Ananthan, who joined Rotary in 1990. The club chose the effective charter date of 9th June 1987 being the charter date of the oldest of the 3 clubs – making it more than 25 years of SERVICE ABOVE SELF. The merger of our clubs represents the desire to create a bigger, bolder and better club to serve our community more effectively. It is our hope that in the coming years RC Greater KL will be one of the premier Rotary clubs in D3300, Malaysia. The organization's dedication to this ideal is best expressed in its motto: Service Above Self. Rotary's distinguished reputation attracted presidents, prime ministers, and a host of other luminaries to its ranks – our former Prime Minister, Dato Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamed was a former member of RC Alor Setar.

RCGKL’s First Regular Meeting of Rotary Year 2026/2027

The Rotary Club of Greater Kuala Lumpur (RCGKL) proudly convened its first regular meeting of the 2026/2027 Rotary year, marking the beginning of another exciting chapter of service, fellowship, and meaningful impact.

Held at the vibrant Out of Africa Restaurant & Kudu Bar, the evening was made even more memorable with members embracing the African-themed dress code, adding colour, energy, and a wonderful sense of camaraderie to the occasion. The unique ambience of the venue, combined with the spirit of fellowship, created the perfect setting for Rotarians and guests to reconnect and celebrate the start of a new Rotary year.

We were honoured to welcome Dr. Leevyadhashiny Ganasan as our guest speaker, who delivered a heartfelt and thought-provoking presentation on “Fighting Childhood Cancer Together: Awareness, Care and Hope.” Her insightful sharing shed light on the challenges faced by children battling cancer and their families, while emphasizing the importance of early detection, comprehensive care, emotional support, and community involvement. Her message served as a powerful reminder that every child deserves hope, every family deserves support, and every one of us has a role to play in making a difference.

Beyond the inspiring talk, the evening reflected the very essence of Rotary, where friendship, meaningful conversations, and a shared commitment to service come together to strengthen our ability to create positive change. It was a wonderful start to the new Rotary year, filled with renewed enthusiasm, fresh ideas, and a collective determination to serve our communities with compassion and purpose.

Our heartfelt appreciation goes to Dr. Leevyadhashiny Ganasan for sharing her expertise and inspiring us through her dedication to childhood cancer awareness. We also extend our sincere thanks to all members and guests who attended, embraced the African theme with such enthusiasm, and contributed to making our first regular meeting a truly memorable occasion.

As I officially conclude my term as President of the Rotary Club of Greater Kuala Lumpur for Rotary Year 2025–2026, I do so with immense gratitude, humility, and a heart full of unforgettable memories.

This journey has been far more than a leadership role and it has been a privilege to serve alongside an amazing family of Rotarians who share the same passion for making a difference. Together, we turned ideas into action, strengthened friendships, supported those in need, and proved that when we serve with purpose, we can create lasting change.

Every project we completed, every life we touched, and every milestone we celebrated was a team effort. I am deeply thankful to our members, Board Mebers, sponsors, fellow Rotary clubs, District leaders, and everyone who stood by us throughout the year. Your trust, dedication, and friendship made this an incredible year of service.

As one chapter ends, another begins. Rotary is not about a title, it is about continuing to serve. I will always remain committed to supporting our club and our Rotary family in every way I can.
