Here in Kakiseni we believe in the value of the performing arts industry in the nation's cultural landscape. Some examples of our initiatives:

Our main website, where we provide a free service to the public for events listings, profiles of practitioners and notices of auditions. http://awards.kakiseni.com

The BOH Cameronian Arts Awards, the prestigious and annual event th

at recognises outstanding achievements in Theatre, Music, Musical Theatre and Dance. http://freespace.kakiseni.com

In recognition of the need for an affordable and versatile space for arts events, we founded Free Space. To date it has been used for music performances (ranging from acoustic to loud metalheads-banging noisecore gigs), theatre shows, workshops of various kinds, rehearsals, poetry readings, fashion shows, shooting locations, press conferences and much, much more. http://festival.kakiseni.com

An annual performing arts festival in Pavilion, one of our initiatives to bring arts to the general public. We figured since the people in Malaysia are known to hang out in shopping malls, we would build a black box and several performance stages and spaces for them within a shopping mall. http://blog.kakiseni.com

Kakiseni has been known for its reviews and editorials since it was founded. In addition, Kakiseni is also working with the DBKL and shopping malls to open up spaces for public performances, through . We also curate performing arts for other major events, for example: Urbanscapes and Hari Belia in Putrajaya. This is but a partial list, it certainly doesn't stop there! We're always up to something, always trying to increase audiences for the arts, find more spaces for performances, help practitioners with their work, gain more recognition for the industry. Simply put, we are a small team with a huge amount of passion for what we do. Come one, come all! Our friends at EM Drama (EM Drama (002922191-K)) are staging a teen theatre show, A Rendition of A Midsummer Night’s Dream (an original play by William Shakespeare) 🎭 🧚‍♀️

A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a comedy about what happens when love, friendship, and reality get turned upside down. Four young lovers run away into a mysterious forest, where magical fairies accidentally make everyone fall in love with the wrong person. At the same time, a group of enthusiastic amateur actors are trying their best to rehearse a play, often with hilarious results.

What follows is a night filled with mistaken identities, magical mix-ups, and laugh-out-loud chaos, before everything finally falls back into place. It’s a story that reminds us that love isn’t always logical, life rarely goes according to plan, and sometimes the most unforgettable adventures happen when everything seems to go wrong.

If you’re looking for a fun theatre outing, do support the show which is a part of the PJ Comedy Festival.

🎭 Venue: Destage, Jaya One
📅 Date: 2 August 2026 (Sunday)
🕚 Time: 11.00 AM or 3.00 PM

🎟️ Tickets are on sale now. Use promo code KAWAN2 for 10% off when purchasing fewer than 10 tickets. For group bookings of 10 or more, please contact the organisers directly.

📸 POV: You’re got selected for the Maybank Foundation Artist Fellowship Programme (MFAFP). 🤳🏽

This is what your incubation session looks like. Gallery & studio visits. Hands-on workshops. Inspiring conversations with experts. Nature escapes. Late-night idea exchanges. And getting to know people who just get your vision.

Some of the best parts happen between the sessions. Sharing stories on the bus, exploring new places together, and finding out what you have in common with other SEAbling artists.

This reel is a glimpse of what past fellows experienced in Malaysia. You could be part of the next cohort. 👀

The Penang Puppet Festival returns this August with 🌷 Berbunga🌷, a joyful celebration of puppetry traditions as they continue to grow, evolve and bloom across generations. 🌸

Organised by Ombak Potehi (), this year’s festival brings together artists and puppetry traditions from across Asia through performances, exhibitions, workshops, talks and cultural exchanges.

Ombak Potehi was founded by Prof. Tan Sooi Beng, a renowned ethnomusicologist, scholar-activist and recipient of the 🏆20th BOH Cameronian Arts Awards Lifetime Achievement Award🏆.
Check out Kakiseni’s YouTube channel to watch a video of her contributions and achievements to the arts!

👉🏽 Week 1: 12–16 August
🌺 Mekar Raya: The Blossoming of POTEHI
For the first time in Southeast Asia, POTEHI practitioners from Penang, Jakarta, Singapore, Taipei and Zhangzhou come together to celebrate a shared tradition that has taken root and blossomed in different communities and cultures. Beyond the performances, don’t miss the roundtable discussions, talks and a rare sharing on the Ta Peng (Traditional Stage Blessing Ritual).

👉🏽 Week 2: 20–23 August
🍃Warisan: Seeds of Tomorrow
The festival continues with a celebration of heritage, education, community and the next generation. Catch Iron-Rod Puppetry (Teochew), Wayang Kulit Kelantan, hands-on workshops, artist talks, community exchanges and the Lunasinar Art Market, all exploring how puppetry continues to inspire and flourish today.
