Why is ovarian cancer often diagnosed at a later stage compared to other cancers? 🎗️

In this reel, Dr. Michael Lim Chung Keat, Consultant Gynaecologist & Gynae-Oncologist with Hospital Picaso, explains why ovarian cancer can be difficult to detect early and why routine screening is not commonly recommended for low-risk individuals.

Key points women should know about ovarian cancer:

📌The ovaries are small and located deep within the pelvis

📌Tumours may grow considerably larger before symptoms become noticeable

📌Many ovarian cysts are benign (non-cancerous tumor) rather than malignant (cancerous cells)

Awareness and understanding the realities of ovarian cancer detection can support informed healthcare decisions and earlier medical attention.

Watch, learn, and share this with the women in your life. 💙

The Malaysia National Cancer Registry Report 2012–2016 reports that the majority of lung cancer cases in the country are diagnosed only at Stages 3 and 4.

To raise awareness on lung health and address the growing challenge of late-stage lung cancer detection, the National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM) is supporting the IHH-KKM-PDRM LungShield Programme to screen 10,000 Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) officers.

The LungShield Programme utilises the NCSM LungShield — an Integrated Lung Cancer Screening and Diagnosis Kit that enables patients to undergo AI-assisted chest X-ray screening for early detection of lung abnormalities. NCSM LungShield also includes LungLife, a complementary lung cancer insurance policy provided by MCIS Insurance Berhad through a trusted collaboration with the National Cancer Society Malaysia.

This initiative aims to safeguard the well-being of police officers who work tirelessly day and night in service of the nation, while also addressing the long-term impact of air pollution and occupational exposure on lung health.

Find out more about LungShield today or call for an appointment at 010-2367351

The National Cancer Society of Malaysia is proud to join the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Global Alliance — standing alongside more than 400 esteemed members across over 90 countries in a united mission to improve outcomes for children with cancer and blood disorders worldwide.

This milestone opens new doors for NCSM in international collaboration, educational opportunities, knowledge-sharing, and global support as we continue working towards a future where every child, everywhere, has the chance to survive and thrive regardless of race, religion, or ability to pay.

For decades, NCSM has remained deeply committed to supporting children with cancer and their families in Malaysia through initiatives such as the Home of Hope — a safe and supportive accommodation programme that provides underprivileged paediatric cancer patients and their caregivers with a place to stay while undergoing treatment away from home. Beyond shelter, NCSM continues to champion holistic cancer care through financial aid, psychosocial support, education, awareness, and patient navigation services that ease the burden on families throughout their cancer journey.

By joining the St. Jude Global Alliance, NCSM strengthens its commitment to advancing paediatric cancer care in Malaysia while contributing to a globally shared vision: finding cures and saving children everywhere.
