Deepavali is popularly known as the Festival of Lights. One of the sightings frequently seen during Deepavali is a depiction of a peacock, a symbol of good luck, prosperity, and protection. As the national bird of India, the peacock holds special cultural significance, and its vibrant colours make it a popular decorative motif during Deepavali.

What more suitable goldfish than the Tosakin which has been referred to as the Peacock Tailed Goldfish due to its large semi circle-ish tail.

Happy Deepavali to all those that celebrates it!

Goldfish Infographics (Oranda Series) :
Head (B) :- HEAD TYPES
HEAD TYPE 4: Mixed / Hybridised Heads

If High Heads have very large crown portion headgrowths, Lionheads have thick headgrowth in all areas except chin, and dragonheads have funtans and a box shaped head, what do you call those orandas with heads that does not fit in any of those?

Mixed / Hybrid Heads.

Crown/Top portion: Some have well developed headgrowths as large as High Heads
Side of head: Well developed headgrowth
Gill Cover: Well developed headgrowth
Funtans: Well developed headgrowth & some bulging out (have funtans)
Chin: Some have thin while some have thick headgrowth

Nowadays there are many orandas that does not conform to a single head type, and there are many lovers. They usually like the full-looking head, prominent headgrowth in all areas.

HEAD TYPE 3: DRAGON HEAD ORANDA

A Dragon Head is characterised by prominent headgrowth in mainly 2 areas which are the crown and the funtan. There's headgrowth on the side of the head too but not as thick as the 2 mentioned just now. This is similar to a top view ranchu's head. The growth on the gills are almost non-existent when they're young but a thin layer of wen will emerge when they age.

Crown/Top portion: Well developed headgrowth but not as large as high heads
Side of head: Mediocre headgrowth
Gill Cover: Nil to thin headgrowth
Funtans: Well developed headgrowth & bulging out
Chin: Nil to thin headgrowth

One of the most commonly found head type amongst orandas in Japan is the Dragonhead type.

MNGA Goldfish Infographics : Headgrowth Division

Goldfish with Headgrowth will have several regions that will develop into bumpy, jelly-like structures and the main ones are:

1. Crown/Top region (topmost or cranial area)
2. Side of Head or some refer to it as Cheeks.
3. Gill Cover
4. Chin (Present in hybridized specimens, not so prominent in Lionhead style oranda).
5. Funtans (front cheeks) (added later on)

Later on, when the Funtan craze arrived the Cheek portion was further divided into Front Cheeks (or Funtans or Buffalo Cheeks) and the back/side cheeks (side of head).

We have observed that around the eyes also have a circular ring of wen that will develop when other regions have flourished. Some consider this as a separate division while others claim the eyes will be surrounded by the wen coming from the areas surrounding it.

Knowing the head division will help goldfish hobbyists classify subvariants of the Oranda Breed such as the High Head Oranda, the Lionhead oranda and hybrids (cross between high head and lionheads) and many more.
