Pertubuhan Kebangsaan Pengajar Bahasa Isyarat Malaysia NowBIM aspires to be a National-Level One Stop BIM Teaching and Education Center in Malaysia.

The National Organisation of Malaysian Sign Language Instructors or NowBIM was established on 3 May 2022 and is registered with the Registrar of Societies. The establishment of NowBIM emanated from a group of dedicated Deaf individuals throughout Malaysia who have many years of experience in teaching Malaysian Sign Language (BIM). They also aspire to elevate the Malaysian Sign Language as a true language and recognized and used by the public.

The Silent Voices, Strong Connections workshop was conducted to increase participants’ understanding of the Deaf community, Deaf culture, and the importance of inclusive communication. Through an engaging and interactive learning environment, participants were introduced to Deaf awareness concepts and gained basic knowledge of BIM (Malaysian Sign Language).

The workshop covered essential BIM vocabulary, the role of facial expressions and body language in sign language communication, and the value of visual communication in everyday interactions with Deaf individuals. Participants also took part in practical activities and group exercises designed to build confidence in using BIM while fostering greater empathy and appreciation for the experiences of the Deaf community.

A Telephone Game activity was conducted to encourage teamwork, active participation, and experiential learning, allowing participants to better understand the challenges and importance of effective visual communication. The programme aimed to promote inclusivity, strengthen communication skills, and encourage meaningful connections between Deaf and hearing communities.

Invitation to the 10th Anniversary Celebration of Starbucks Signing Store

NowBIM was invited to attend the 10th Anniversary Celebration of Starbucks Signing Store as a gesture of support and appreciation for its commitment to providing more inclusive services for the Deaf community.

The event also served as a platform to strengthen collaboration between NowBIM and the corporate sector in promoting greater public awareness of the Deaf community and the importance of Deaf-friendly services.

Sign It Loud Fun Run Programme by INTI International University

NowBIM participated in the Sign It Loud Fun Run programme organised by INTI International University as part of a collaborative effort to raise public awareness of the Deaf community and introduce Malaysian Sign Language (BIM) to the wider community.

The programme was a joint initiative involving NowBIM and MyBIM, aimed at creating a more inclusive learning and interaction environment through recreational activities while strengthening connections between the Deaf community and the public.

Working Meetings for the Development of the National Occupational Skills Standard (NOSS) for BIM (Malaysian Sign Language) Teaching – Levels 1, 2 and 3 (April – June 2026)

Ms. Annie Ong represented NowBIM in a series of Working Meetings for the development of the National Occupational Skills Standard (NOSS) for BIM (Malaysian Sign Language) Teaching at Levels 1, 2 and 3, held from April to June 2026.

Her involvement marked an important step towards strengthening the professional recognition of the BIM teaching field and ensuring that the standards developed are aligned with the needs of the Deaf community and BIM instructors in Malaysia. This appointment also ensured that expertise from the BIM community was incorporated into the development of the National Occupational Skills Standard (NOSS) for BIM Teaching.

Throughout the development process, discussions focused on the competencies, knowledge, skills, and professional requirements of BIM instructors. Several working meetings were conducted to review and develop the standard structure, competency content, career pathways, and employment ecosystem related to the BIM teaching profession.

NowBIM is proud to contribute to the development of this national standard, supporting the advancement of BIM teaching quality and the professional growth of BIM instructors in Malaysia.

Moreh Gathering and Dialogue Session with Malaysian GIG Worker Associations and YB Datuk Seri R. Ramanan, Minister of Human Resources (23 February 2026)

NowBIM attended the Moreh Gathering and Dialogue Session with Malaysian GIG Worker Associations and YB Datuk Seri R. Ramanan, Minister of Human Resources. The programme provided a platform for engagement between the government, GIG worker associations, and key stakeholders to discuss the welfare, challenges, and future development of the GIG economy sector in Malaysia.

The session also enabled participants to share their perspectives, experiences, and recommendations on strengthening support and protection for GIG workers. Through its participation, NowBIM reaffirmed its commitment to building strategic partnerships and representing the interests of the Deaf community in promoting inclusive employment and economic opportunities.
