MOMG, led by Datuk Saw Lee Chyan, Chairman paid a courtesy visit to YB Liew Chin Tong, Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry on October 25, 2024 at Menara MITI, Kuala Lumpur. The MOMG gave an overview of the Malaysian oleochemical industry and shared matters of concern pertaining to trade and the competitiveness of the industry.

MOMG celebrated its 40th anniversary with a dinner on October 24, 2024 at the Le Meridien Kuala Lumpur. We were honored to host YB Datuk Chan Foong Hin, Deputy Minister of Plantation and Commodities along with senior representatives from the Government - KPK, MPOB, MPOC, MSPO, MITI & MIDA, our friends from the palm oil industry - MPOA, MEOA and PORAM as well as MOMG members at the celebration.

MOMG was established when 5 companies involved in the production of basic oleochemicals, known as the “M5” came together in 1984 and established the Group to promote the interest of the oleochemical industry. The founding members were Acidchem, Henkel Oleochemicals Malaysia, Malaysian Oleochemical Industry, Unichema Malaysia and Southern Acids.

Today, MOMG comprises 10 members. They are producers of basic oleochemicals, namely fatty acids, methyl esters, fatty alcohols, glycerine and it’s derivatives; a major player on the global stage and contributing around RM 20 billion in revenue to the Malaysian economy.

MOMG led by Datuk Saw Lee Chyan, Chairman had a dialogue session with the Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) and Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) on June 25, 2024 at the Sheraton Petaling Jaya Hotel. The aim of the dialogue session was to update members on the status and efforts in promotion of Malaysian sustainable palm oil and explore collaborative efforts to enhance its recognition and acceptance in the palm oil downstream sector.

Group photo of MOMG Technical Committee members who met on June 7, 2024 at the Eastern & Oriental Hotel, Penang. The meeting marks the last meeting chaired by Mr Choong Wai Tuck of IOI Acidchem Sdn Bhd as he will be assuming new roles within MOMG as the Deputy Chairman and Trade / Regulatory Affairs Committee moving forward. Succeeding him as the new Chairman of Technical Committee is Mr Lawrence Law of Natural Oleochemicals Sdn Bhd. The Technical Committee also welcomed new Committee members from IOI Acidchem Sdn Bhd and Fatty Chemical (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd. The Technical Committee also bid farewell and recorded their appreciation to En Abdul Razak as he will be retiring from Fatty Chemical (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd end of June 2024.

MOMG members attended the 37th ASEAN Oleochemical Manufacturers Group (AOMG) Annual General Meeting held on April 22, 2024 at the Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur. Mr John Hall of PT Muslim Mas (Indonesia) and Mr Lee Jia Zhang of Palm Oleo Sdn Bhd (Malaysia) were elected as the new Chairman and Vice Chairman respectively for the 2024 - 2026 term. MOMG also shared the Malaysian oleochemical industry updates & developments for the year 2023 at the meeting.

MOMG convened its 31st Annual General Meeting on April 22, 2024 at the Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur. The meeting adopted the Executive Committee Report and Financial Statements for 2022-2023. YBhg Datuk Saw Lee Chyan of Evyap Sabun Malaysia Sdn Bhd and Mr Choong Wai Tuck of IOI Acidchem Sdn Bhd were elected as the new Chairman and Deputy Chairman of MOMG for the 2024-2026 term.

MOMG led by its Chairman, Mr Lee Jia Zhang had the honour to meet YB Datuk Chan Foong Hin, Deputy Minister of Plantation and Commodities on April 4, 2024 in Putrajaya. MOMG gave an overview about the Malaysian oleochemical industry, shared challenges it faced and recommendations by the industry.

MOMG, led by its Chairman, Mr Lee Jia Zhang made a courtesy visit to MSPO CEO, En Mohd Shahari Idris on April 1, 2024. MOMG shared about the oleochemical industry and exchanged ideas on sustainability certifications for palm oil based products including oleochemicals.
