IOM Malaysia conducted its fifth Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) training for 53 AKPS officers at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, conducted across two sessions on 13-14 May 2026 (Session 1) and 19–20 May 2026 (Session 2).

Facilitated by the Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS), the training reinforced frontline officers’ capacity in Psychological First Aid (PFA), effective communication, and the provision of psychosocial support to migrants in distress.

This initiative is part of the Immigration and Border Governance (IBG) project, implemented with the support of the Australian Department of Home Affairs.

IOM Malaysia was pleased to support and deliver a training session at the FMM Johor Seminar on International Best Practices in the Management of Migrant Workers.

The 15-16 April event was an opportunity to share insights on ethical recruitment and re Johor for the valued collaboration. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with FMM in Johor and across Malaysia to strengthen protections for migrant workers and support a more ethical labour ecosystem.

Thank you to everyone who joined IOM Malaysia for the online launch of our Private Sector Engagement Strategy.

We appreciate the exchange of perspectives and look forward to continued engagement with companies operating in or sourcing from Malaysia, as due diligence expectations continue to rise across global supply chains.

The Strategy sets out how we will strengthen collaboration with businesses and industry partners in Malaysia on migrant worker protection, responsible recruitment, and human rights due diligence, aligned with Malaysia’s National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights (NAPBHR) 2025–2030.

We appreciate the exchange of perspectives and look forward to continued engagement with companies operating in or sourcing from Malaysia as due diligence expectations continue to rise across global supply chains.

IOM Malaysia and DW Akademie brought together 16 journalists and media practitioners from national news agencies, academia and multilingual media platforms across Malaysia in a three-day media training on migration reporting in Kuala Lumpur.

Throughout the training, participants explored Malaysia’s migration landscape, misinformation and stereotypes, conflict-sensitive journalism, information verification, hate speech and responsible ways to interview people in vulnerable situations.

Migration reporting plays an important role in shaping public understanding, policy conversations and the dignity and safety of migrants. Anita Ahmad, Chief Executive Officer of Yayasan MySDG highlights the power of storytellers to shape understanding and reflect the realities, contribution and sacrifices of migrants who are part of Malaysia’s story. IOM Malaysia successfully conducted its fourth Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) training for 47 AKPS officers at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, held in two sessions on 15–16 April 2026 (Session 1) and 22–23 April 2026 (Session 2).

IOM Malaysia, together with the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRCS), convened a coordination meeting in Sabah bringing together civil society organizations working closely with undocumented and at-risk populations, alongside representative from the U.S. Department of State Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons. The discussion focused on identifying existing capacities, gaps, and operational challenges in addressing trafficking in persons, while strengthening prevention, protection, and referral approaches grounded in the local realities of East Malaysia.

This engagement forms part of the project “SAFE SPACES: Supporting Anti-Trafficking Frameworks and Enhancing Victim Services, Protection, Awareness, Collaboration and Empowerment in Sabah and Sarawak,” supported by the U.S. Department of State Trafficking in Persons Office

IOM Malaysia extends its appreciation to SUHAKAM (Human Rights Commission of Malaysia), represented by Commissioner Dato’ Hj Ahmad Azam Ab Rahman, for the continued engagement on addressing key migration issues.

The meeting discussed enhance collaboration and sustainable actions to support protection of migrants from trafficking, providing refugee resettlement, access to skills development, and other protection initiatives for vulnerable communities.
