Building Stronger Emergency Medical Teams, Together

MERCY Malaysia joined partners from around the world for the launch of the Hiroshima Peace Nexus (HPN) and the designation of Hiroshima University as the newest WHO Collaborating Centre for Emergency Medical Team (EMT) Information Management. Our Head of Health, Masniza Mustaffa, represented MERCY Malaysia at this milestone in strengthening global EMT collaboration.

As a WHO-classified EMT Type 1 Fixed since 2023, MERCY Malaysia continues to contribute towards stronger emergency healthcare coordination, information management and preparedness. Through collaboration with the global EMT community, we work to ensure more effective, timely and coordinated responses for communities affected by emergencies.

Inisiatif ini menjadi satu lagi langkah penting dalam perjalanan pemulihan komuniti yang terjejas akibat banjir.

Majlis Serah Terima Hunian Sementara (Huntara) menandakan penyerahan ruang kehidupan baharu kepada keluarga yang memerlukan.

Setiap kunci yang diserahkan membawa makna yang lebih besar daripada sebuah bangunan. Ia membawa rasa selamat, harapan dan peluang untuk keluarga meneruskan kehidupan.

Terima kasih kepada Pemerintah Aceh Tamiang, para pendana, rakan kerjasama, pasukan pelaksana dan komuniti yang bersama menjayakan usaha ini.

Pemulihan adalah perjalanan bersama.

Banjir.
26 November 2025.

Lebih 300,000 penduduk terjejas.

Namun di sebalik setiap angka, ada sebuah keluarga yang sedang membina semula kehidupan.

8 bulan kemudian.

Hunian Sementara dibangunkan sebagai ruang untuk komuniti memulakan semula kehidupan, membina semula harapan dan bangkit bersama.

MERCY Malaysia membangunkan Hunian Sementara untuk komuniti Kota Limpang Bawah, Aceh Tamiang.

Snapshots from our Medical Camp in Kampung Baba, Telupid, Sabah.

Some journeys are measured in kilometres. Others are measured in the lives they touch.

To reach Kampung Baba, the journey takes hours by road, a ferry crossing over the Labuk River, and another stretch through plantation roads. For the families who call this village home, this is also the journey they face whenever they need medical care.

Over three days, essential healthcare services, including medical and dental consultations, health screenings, women’s health services, eye checks, health education and hygiene kits, were brought closer to the community.

Beyond the consultations and treatments were moments of connection. A reassuring conversation. A child’s smile after a dental check-up. A new pair of reading glasses helping someone see clearly again. Gentle reminders that healthcare is about people, dignity and hope.

Across Malaysia, there are still communities where access to healthcare remains a challenge. Every step towards bringing care closer makes a difference, because everyone deserves the opportunity to live a healthy life, no matter where they call home 🇲🇾

At times when emergencies are less frequent during mid-year, our work continues beyond response.

This period allows us to focus on strengthening communities through development programmes, capacity building, and knowledge sharing to build more resilient health systems.

As part of the Malaysia Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP) for Syria 2026, MERCY Malaysia conducted a Reproductive Health Training of Trainers Programme, bringing together reproductive health focal points and midwives from across Syria.

The programme equipped participants with practical skills and training approaches to strengthen reproductive and maternal health services. Through this initiative, participants are prepared to share their expertise with healthcare workers in their respective communities, creating a wider network of trainers across Syria.

Humanitarian work goes beyond responding to emergencies. It is also about building stronger systems, empowering communities, and investing in a more resilient future.

We don’t just respond to emergencies. We strengthen the systems and people that help communities recover, adapt, and thrive.

The Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI) Training of Trainers (ToT) Programme brought together Malaysian and Syrian healthcare professionals to exchange knowledge, strengthen clinical practices, and enhance the quality of care for children.

By building the capacity of healthcare workers, the programme contributes to stronger, more resilient health systems and supports better health outcomes for children and their communities.

The programme was implemented by MERCY Malaysia in Syria under the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP) 2026.
