WORLD MUSLIM CHILDREN'S DAY ON THE CELEBRATION OF MAULIDUR RASUL - WHERE ARE THE CHILDREN'S RIGHTS IN GAZA?
Today, when Muslims celebrate Maulidur Rasul, the situation of children in Gaza is in a very acute stage.
Indeed, the world is now in a critical situation regarding the fate of Palestinian children in Gaza.
In Gaza, children's rights are totally ignored by the world when the world community seems to be only a spectator to Israel's inhumane brutality in a barbaric operation supported by the Western superpower, the United States.
The right to life, education, the right to free living, and the right to be protected and be defended from any violence, are all ignored in full sight of the UN as a world body that seems to be unable to do anything.
As a result, since the Zionist Israeli's occupation of Palestine in 1948 under the blessing of the British and Arab leaders, hundreds of thousands of Palestinian children have been killed, expelled from their homeland, separated from their parents, forced to become orphans, arrested and mercilessly abused. Throughout the Israeli occupation, Palestinian children became the worst victims.
Now in Gaza, after being under siege for 17 years since 2006, the children of Gaza are growing up in the most inhumane conditions. In every Israeli attack on Gaza in 2008 /2009, 2012, 2014 and 2021, children are the highest casualty. Now in 2023 - 2024 over 17,000 children were killed and the toll is still soaring. By the one year anniversary of the genocide in Gaza, according to the NGO Save the Children, more than 21,000 children are missing.
According to estimates as the Gaza war continues, between 15,000 and 25,000 children in Gaza are orphaned, while according to UN Women, an estimated 19,000 children are motherless.
A report from the UN health agency states, in the war situation in Gaza, 32 children died of malnutrition, including 28 of them under 5 years old".
The missing children are assumed to be under the rubble of buildings, buried in mass graves, bodies in unrecognizable pieces, detained or separated from their families.
In the West Bank, Palestinian children killed as a result of Israeli military and illegal immigration attacks continued to increase manifold when the war broke out in Gaza.
Tens of thousands live without parents. The opportunity to get access to education is threatened, joy of childhood is denied. Even the right to secure the future of children in Gaza is slim.
All children's rights seem to be ignored in Israel's violence in Gaza.
The United Nations Convention on the Rights of Children (UNCRC), which is a binding international agreement, does not have any effect on Israel, which preys on children of Palestine.
In Gaza and throughout Palestine, children do not have the same rights and status as Israeli children. Israel's apartheid system has denied Palestinian children in terms of social, cultural and economic rights. All rights are non-existent for Palestinian children.
The fact that thousands of Palestinian children are in Israeli prisons proves that Palestinian children are treated as criminals by the Israeli regime.
Today, 12 Rabiul Awal 1446 corresponding to 16th September 2024, we are celebrating International Muslim Children's Day in conjunction with the Maulidur Rasul. The goal is to educate children to appreciate morals and practice of the Sunnah of the Prophet, peace be upon him. All Muslims observe this momentous occasion among all children in the world.
Today should remind everyone that the situation of Muslim children in particular and children around the world in general is facing a very unpredictable and unsafe situation. War, famine, forced displacement , being refugees, starvation, sexual exploitation, forced labor and human trafficking are threatening the safety of children.
We urge the world community to act immediately to save children who are facing severe conditions. Now the situation in Gaza is totally unacceptable which demands for concrete actions to alleviate the sufferings.
