𝟕𝟏𝐬𝐭 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 (𝐀𝐆𝐌)

TEAM held its 71st AGM at Hilton Shah Alam Glenmarie on 24 April 2026.

The meeting commenced with a minute of silence in remembrance of our late member, Mr Ganasen Moorthi, Deputy Chairman of The Malaysian Panel-Products Manufacturers’ Association (MPMA) and General Manager of HeveaBoard Bhd, in recognition of his valuable contributions to the industry.

The AGM also saw the re-election of Mr Chua Song Fong as President of TEAM, and the association welcomed newly elected Committee Member Ms YunLu Lee representing Authentic Timber Resources Sdn. Bhd.

TEAM extends its sincere appreciation to Puan Sophia Badaruddin, Senior Assistant Director of Customs II, together with Tuan Ariff Yusoff and Tuan Hamzi Hamedan, Assistant Directors of Customs from the Royal Customs Department of Malaysia, for the insightful SST talk and engaging Q&A session. The Customs Department welcomed further enquiries from TEAM members on issues related to SST moving forward.

TEAM extends its sincere appreciation to the Presidents, Chairmen and representatives of various associations present, including Mr Tan Peng Juan (STIA & MTA), Mr Ng Boon Kuan (MWMJC), Ms Yii Yien Yien (STA), Mr Fong Ming San (TAS), Mr Wahid Jaafar (TIF & PEKA), as well as Mr Mokhtar Mohd Yaccob, Deputy CEO of MTC. Special thanks are also extended to the officers of MTIB, the Forestry Department Peninsular Malaysia and FRIM for their presence and support.

TEAM reaffirmed its support for the exemption of sawn timber (HS 4407) from the expanded SST scope.

Sawmill members were also advised by the Customs Department to register as Registered Manufacturers (RM).

The event ended with a joyful and enjoyable Get-Together dinner.

𝐀𝐝 𝐇𝐨𝐜 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐢𝐝𝐝𝐥𝐞 𝐄𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐂𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐬

TEAM convened an ad hoc discussion on 9 March 2026, chaired by its President, Mr Chua Song Fong, with MATRADE, MTIB, and MTC to deliberate on the impact of the Middle East crisis on Malaysia’s trade and timber industries.

TEAM emphasized that it fully understands the impact faced by its members due to shipment disruptions and expressed its hope that government agencies will assist and facilitate trade during this challenging period.

During the meeting, TEAM requested specific support measures:
1) MATRADE:
- To explore options for diverting cargo to alternative ports.
- To look into local shipping companies such as MISC and ShenYang Shipping Company to coordinate cargo bound for Middle East ports, as vessels enroute gulf destinations are impacted by conflicts; it also affects other destinations not directly impacted by the conflicts.

2) MTIB
- To allow refunds of cess for shipments cancelled due to the crisis.

3) MTC
- To provide financial support through the Export Assistance Programme (EAP).

4) The government should initiate discussions with banks to encourage them to provide longer loan facilities, such as extending Bankers’ Acceptance maturities, in light of delayed shipments.

TEAM also invited members who are experiencing shipment issues to write in to TEAM for compilation, so that concerns can be consolidated and presented effectively to the relevant agencies.

TEAM participated as an exhibitor at the Export Furniture Exhibition (EFE) 2026, held in Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from 3 to 6 March 2026.

Our participation provided a valuable platform to engage with industry stakeholders, introduce the association’s initiatives, and connect with companies interested in joining our association as members. Throughout the exhibition, we had the opportunity to hold constructive discussions with numerous visitors, while also receiving several trade and membership enquiries.

We would like to thank all visitors and industry partners who took the time to visit our booth and learn more about our association. We look forward to welcoming new members and strengthening collaboration across the timber industry. 🤝
