Founded in 1999, Special Olympics Malaysia is a nonprofit organization registered with Sports Commission of Malaysia under Akta Perbangunan Sukan 1997 Peraturan-peraturan Pembangunan Sukan (Pemdaftaran Badan Sukan) 1998 (Perauran 6) and is accredited by Special Olympics International as the National Program for Malaysia. Through accredited state program, we reach out to all states and their respective local communities and working with other NGOs, Pusat Pemulihan Dalam Kuminities (PDK), Schools and governmental agencies to engage communities for people with intellectual disabilities (ID). We aim to serve Intellectual Disabilities communities and inclusion through programming in sports, health, education, youth leadership and community building, in tackling the inactivity, stigma, isolation, and injustice that people with intellectual disabilities face.

🎳 Team Special Olympics Malaysia proudly participated in the Special Olympics East Asia Regional Bowling Competition 2026, held in Hong Kong, China, from 4–9 September 2026.

🏓 Pickleball Coaching Workshop 2026 🏓

Special Olympics Malaysia successfully conducted the Pickleball Coaching Workshop for Peninsular Malaysia from 28–30 August 2026 at PLAYA Racquet Club @ PARC Subang, Selangor.

The three-day workshop brought together coaches from eight Special Olympics Malaysia State Programs, providing them with the opportunity to enhance their knowledge, coaching skills and understanding of pickleball for athletes with intellectual disabilities.

The workshop was facilitated and instructed by Farrell Choo, Technical Director – Pickleball, Special Olympics Malaysia, who shared his expertise and guided participants through both classroom and practical coaching sessions.

This workshop marks an important step in the development of pickleball within Special Olympics Malaysia. Moving forward, SOM aims to further strengthen pickleball programmes across the country by supporting trained coaches to introduce and develop the sport within their respective State Programmes.

With more athletes and coaches participating, the next step will be to create more opportunities for training, friendly matches and eventually Special Olympics Malaysia pickleball competitions, providing athletes with a platform to develop their skills, demonstrate their abilities and experience the joy of competition.

Bringing together athletes from Sarawak and Selangor, our team is ready to represent SO Malaysia at the 2026 Special Olympics East Asia Regional Bowling Competition, taking place from 4–7 September.

🌱 Nourish & Flourish

On 11 August, Special Olympics Malaysia, together with KESKA UUM, organised a Family Health Forum at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), bringing together 95 participants both physically and online.

Titled “Nourish and Flourish: Healthy Nutrition and Occupational Therapy Towards a Healthy and Quality Life,” the forum explored healthy nutrition, occupational therapy, psychological well-being and resilience — equipping families, educators and caregivers with practical knowledge to better support individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD).

A big thank you to our speakers, moderator, UUM, and all participants for making this meaningful session possible. Together, we continue to build a healthier, more inclusive community where everyone can live a healthy, active and fulfilling life.

Inclusion in action! 🌟 128 athletes with and without intellectual disabilities took to the court at the Labuan Unified Bocce 2026 to showcase the power of Unified Sports®️.

32 teams competed side-by-side, breaking down barriers and building friendships through teamwork, respect, and unity.

A big thank you to the Labuan Federal Territory Youth and Sports Department, PERSON, Lions Club of Labuan Mandarin, our incredible Special Education teachers, and volunteers who made this event an absolute success.

Young Athletes Program with IDEAS Autism Centre, Port Dickson brought movement, play and plenty of smiles to the beach! 🌊🏖️

We were also joined by 10 UPS volunteers, who brought energy and encouragement throughout the session!

Young Athlete Program is an inclusive play programme that introduces young children with and without ID, age 2–7, to movement, play and basic sports skills.
