SAMH The Selangor And Federal Territory Association For The Mentally Handicapped (SAMH) was established in 1964.

It was initiated by a group of concerned parents and voluntary workers catering to more than 250 children/adults with varying Mental Disabilities.

We are honoured to have one of our centres, SAMH Klang to be chosen by Maybank for a long-term community service project as part of their CSR project, Maybank CBD Cahaya Kasih 2026/2027.

As part of the project, they are sending a small group of volunteers to help on restoring our school farm at SAMH Klang from August to December 2026. Upon completion at the end of the year, the farm will be used again to cultivate agricultural products as a sustainable source of income to our centres and students.

They are also helping on re-painting and refreshing our Sheltered Workshop building, giving the space a brand-new look. This transformation will create a brighter and more welcoming environment for our students and staff. 🎨

We are grateful to Maybank for their efforts that will greatly benefit our special students. We look forward to see more collaborations like this in the future.

Today was a day full of learning moments at SAMH Wisma Harapan! 💚✨

Across all our programmes, our special needs students were busy learning through meaningful and hands-on activities:

🌱 In the garden, our students from Early Intervention Programme (6 years old and below) learnt how to plant chilies.
🍳 Meanwhile in the Cooking Class room, our students from the Special Learning Programme (7 to 17 years old) were taught to cook delicious fried rice with the aid of their teacher. A simple basic recipe so they won’t go hungry when their parents are late from work;
🎨 Lastly in the Vocational Training Centre, our students (18 years old and above) learnt some decor skills by decorating their classroom door with beautiful batik fabric, encouraging interest and developing their creative talent.

These learning activities for students in the different programmes prove that learning impaired children and youths, when given the opportunity and exposure, are capable of learning and growing various skills, which will not only raise their self-esteem and confidence but also provide them with multiple avenues to explore in ensuring they become more employable and can enjoy more independent lives when they grow up.

We are proud to have bTaskee Malaysia support SAMH through its CSR initiative, contributing to a cleaner, safer, and more comfortable environment for students with learning disabilities.

As part of the project, the bTaskee Malaysia team provided professional cleaning services throughout the Wisma Harapan building and donated essential cleaning supplies to support its ongoing maintenance and cleanliness.

Through initiatives like this, we are committed to creating a positive and lasting impact in the community. We hope more companies will come forward to offer similar volunteer services and choose one of our two centres SAMH Wisma Harapan or SAMH Klang for your next CSR project!

🎨✨ Meet Koh Sheng Xiang, a talented student who excels in art. He discovered his talent one day during a learning session at SAMH Klang, and since then, he has continuously sharpened his skills. Over time, he is able to draw and colour in ways that amaze his teachers.

His story reminds us that every person with learning disabilities has unique abilities waiting to be discovered. With the right guidance and opportunities, they can express themselves and achieve more than they ever imagined.

From the kitchen to the garden, our students in SAMH Klang are learning! 🍫🌱

Inside the Cooking Class, our budding chefs from Vocational Training Centre (Age: 18 years and above) had a wonderful time baking cakes. They carefully followed the instructions given by the class teacher, one by one, until the final step. And the result? The yummy and delicious looking chocolate steamed cakes for everyone. They also gain confidence in the kitchen, enhance their coordination and motor skills and have loads of fun with peers, improving their social skills as well.

Meanwhile at the Gardening Class, our students from the Special Learning Programme (Age: 7-17 years old) are learning basic gardening. Using the given tools, they carefully place the plants into the soil. Caring for and watching the plants grow over time will give them joy and a great sense of satisfaction.

Through hands-on experiences like these, our students are developing practical life skills which will greatly benefit them in the future.

🎳 SAMH Bowling Session with Humanitarian Experience (HXP) Volunteers (Collaboration with YMCA KL)

Last Friday, our students from SAMH Wisma Harapan enjoyed a fun-filled bowling session with the American volunteers from Humanitarian Experience (HXP) at Subang Parade, made possible through the collaboration with YMCA KL.

The lanes were filled with laughter, friendly competition, and meaningful connections as everyone had a wonderful time playing together. To wrap up the memorable day, we gathered for group photos to capture and cherish these special moments.

✨ SAMH 62nd Anniversary Charity Dinner 2026 ✨

On 20 June 2026, we proudly celebrated the SAMH 62nd Anniversary Charity Dinner at Dorsett Grand Subang. This event brought together supporters, donors, and parents in a memorable evening of compassion and community.

We are deeply honoured by the presence of DYMM Tengku Permaisuri Selangor, whose gracious attendance made the occasion even more meaningful. We also thank YAB Datin Seri Masdiana Muhamad who accompanied DYMM Tuanku Permaisuri Selangor to the dinner.

The event is made more lively by the energetic speeches by the Emcee - Dee, and wonderful performances from the PDRM Band Combo and our talented special needs students, whose passion and dedication inspired everyone present.

A little progress every day goes a long way. 💙

Our students in the Craft & Farm Unit at SAMH Klang have been learning and practicing daily living skills such as folding, ironing, and hanging clothes.

Through these hands-on activities, they are building confidence and independence. We're proud to see them taking on new challenges and growing with each step.
