Vaisakhi Celebrations at KhalsaLand
18–19 April 2026 (Saturday–Sunday)

KhalsaLand, located in Kuala Kubu Bharu, is a peaceful retreat and campsite developed by Sikh Naujawan Sabha Malaysia. Spread across approximately 20 acres, it has become a valued place for camps, workshops, youth development, family gatherings, and spiritual programmes. Surrounded by greenery and close to the Selangor River, the venue offers a calm natural environment ideal for learning and community bonding.

Vaisakhi is one of the most important celebrations in the Sikh calendar. It marks the creation of the Khalsa in 1699 by Guru Gobind Singh Ji and is a time of prayer and seva.

Around 40 people, including 15 children from the Divine Life Society, participated in the celebrations. The Divine Life Society was inspired by the teachings of Swami Sivananda, who promoted selfless service, meditation, healthy living, and spiritual upliftment. The children from the society also had a chance to experience Vaisakhi celebrations.

On 18 April 2026, in the evening, the Bodh family planted two rambutan trees. Soon after, participants enjoyed a refreshing nature walk followed by a picnic beside the scenic Selangor River, where families and children shared joyful moments together.

The following morning, on 19 April, the programme began at 4:00am with simran, followed by nitnem and Asa Di Vaar. These early pre-dawn hours are often known as ambrosial hours, a special time cherished for meditation, prayer, and inner stillness.

At 9:00am, Nishan Sahib seva took place with kirtan by the Selayang Youth Jatha. This was followed by kirtan presentations by children and youths from 9:30am to 10:45am.

A special session was then conducted by Past President of Sikh Naujawan Sabha Malaysia, Vir Sukdev Singh (ex-MAS), from 10:45am to 11:40am. The Vaisakhi programme concluded with Ardas and Guru Ka Langgar.

A calm and peaceful evening as the sun sets over KhalsaLand, filling the sky with warm shades of orange. The quiet surroundings, the trees in silhouette, and the soft evening light show the natural beauty of this eco-friendly space — a place for reflection and connection.

KhalsaLand is steadily evolving into a vibrant centre of learning and growth. Beyond hosting the SNSM Annual Gurmat Camps, various samelans, and programmes organised by different Sikh organisations and groups, it is also nurturing the development of Gurmat Sangeet and musical education.

On Sunday, 22 March 2026, a Tabla and Harmonium training workshop was successfully conducted at KhalsaLand, Kuala Kubu Baru. The session was led by Master Bhai Shahkander Singh Ji and was attended by 12 students. Participants were introduced to the basics of Sargam and Shabad singing, including Raag Bilawal in Teen Taal (16 beats), Raag Bhairvee in Dadra (6 beats), and Shabads in Kaherva (8 beats). For Tabla, students learnt transition beats and variations for Kaherva (8 beats), Dadra (6 beats), and Teen Taal (16 beats).

The workshop, open to both young and senior participants, began at 11:00 AM and concluded at about 4:00 PM, providing a meaningful and hands-on learning experience for all involved.

KhalsaLand continues to position itself as an open and inclusive space for the community, offering facilities for a wide range of programmes—from camps and Gurmat Sangeet classes to youth development initiatives. With its natural surroundings and peaceful environment, it provides an ideal setting for both learning and reflection, encouraging more organisations and groups to make use of the space for meaningful, community-driven activities.

Sarjit Singh, the manager of KhalsaLand, shared that the team has been actively reaching out to the community by making the facilities available for various programmes, including camps, Gurmat Sangeet sessions, and youth development activities. He added that while operating and maintaining a campsite comes with its challenges and costs, KhalsaLand strives to keep fees to a minimum so that more members of the community can benefit from the facilities.

On 21st March, two events were held at Khalsa Land. The first was a farewell for Balvinder Kumar, who had worked as an employee since 2017. He has decided to return with his family. The Khalsa Land Development Team organised a cha pani for him and also passed the hat around to collect a small contribution as a gesture of appreciation for his years of service.

The second was the main event. Khalsa Land marked Sikh Environment Day on 21st March with a series of activities. These included a hike by youth members up Bukit Batu Pahat, located across the Selangor River from Khalsa Land, a Kirtan session held in the Darbar Sahib led by Sukhdev Singh, more commonly known as Sukhdev MAS, who was also involved in the planting of trees, and a tree-planting initiative where 10 fruit trees were planted at various locations around the site.

We also saw a good number of ladies taking part, both seniors and youngsters. The girls from the orphan girls’ Divine Light Society also participated in the event. Khalsa Land promotes inclusiveness, and the site is made available to other communities when possible. Over the years, many different Sikh organisations, Gurdwaras, and Punjabi Schools have come together and held activities at Khalsa Land.

An eco-friendly Khalsa Land is important because it helps us live in line with Sikh values. Sikhi teaches us to respect nature as part of Waheguru’s creation. By keeping the environment clean, planting trees, and caring for the land, we create a peaceful place where sangat can connect with nature and remember the Creator.

It is also important for the next generation. When youth take part in activities like hiking and tree planting, they learn to care for the environment. This builds awareness and responsibility, and helps Khalsa Land grow into a place where seva, nature, and spirituality come together.

Attached are photos and videos capturing moments from the day’s activities.

At Khalsa Land, on 21 Mar 2026 (Saturday) as the sun was setting, the sky filled with beautiful colours of orange and pink. In this calm and peaceful moment, volunteers came together to plant trees. Everyone worked side by side, helping to care for the land and make it greener for the future.

With simple acts like digging, planting, and watering, each person played a part. These small trees will one day grow and give shade, fruit, and life to the area. It was not just planting trees, but doing seva together.

The first Abiu fruit tree at KhalsaLand was planted by Rajveer Singh. At present, there is one Abiu tree growing beside the manager’s accommodation unit at KhalsaLand.

The Abiu is a tropical fruit tree originally from the Amazon region. Its fruit has a smooth yellow skin and soft, creamy flesh with a sweet taste often compared to caramel custard.

Farewell to a Sewadar: Balwinder Kumar

After eight years of dedicated service, our beloved Sewadar Balwinder Kumar will be returning to India in mid-March 2026 to reunite with his family. During his time with us, Kumar Ji has served the sangat with humility, strength, and unwavering commitment.

Balwinder Kumar arrived in Malaysia in 2017 and initially worked at a coconut factory in Ipoh. On 29 November 2017, he met with a tragic accident at the factory which resulted in the amputation of his right arm below the elbow. After receiving treatment in hospital, he later came to Ulu Yam on 9 December 2017, where he began doing odd jobs while rebuilding his life.

On 25 February 2018, he came to KhalsaLand, Kuala Kubu Bharu, and has been with us ever since. Despite the challenges of losing his arm, Kumar Ji never allowed his disability to limit his spirit. He carried out his sewa with determination and sincerity.

Over the years, he has helped in many ways — assisting in the kitchen and cooking, cleaning bathrooms and toilets, maintaining cabins, preparing facilities for events and camps, and working in the fields planting and watering crops. He even drives the tractor for transport and grass cutting. He is known to everyone as a very hardworking, honest, and committed sevadar, always ready to help wherever needed.

Farewell Programme

Date: 21 March 2026 (Saturday)
Time: 4.00 pm – 5.30 pm
Venue: KhalsaLand, Kuala Kubu Bharu (KKB)

The programme will be followed by Cha-Panni.
