Music, purpose, and friendship all in one evening. 🎶

On 22 November 2025, members of Rotary Club Of Kota Kinabalu Pearl joined the Music Carnival Charity Gala in Taichung, hosted by our sister club, Rotary Club of Taichung Huimin.

Set by the lakeside, the evening came alive with performances from classical pieces like Peter and the Wolf to a special violin presentation by President Yvonne. Every note carried something deeper a shared commitment to give, to support, and to uplift.

Representing RCKK Pearl were Charter President Datuk Adeline Leong, President Datin Dr. Jeanette Tambakau, Past President Rosie Chong, Rotarian Datin Rocy Chong, Rotarian NaTaly Lim, Rotarian Christy Liew and Rotarian Liea Jamaliea who stood together in support of this meaningful fundraising effort.

Beyond the music, what truly mattered was the unity different countries, one purpose.

This is what sister club partnership looks like coming together not just in friendship, but in service.

If you believe in building impact beyond borders, this is the kind of work Rotary continues to do.

Service Above Self.

Some evenings linger not just for the meal, but for the stories shared. 🍽️

That night in Chiayi, the evening unfolded over dinner, graciously hosted by Past President Dr. William Choy and his wife at Water Bird Japanese Restaurant a place he holds close, one of his favorite spots from his time working here.

The space carried a gentle Japanese ambiance, and the meal was beautifully curated balanced, thoughtful in every detail, and quietly memorable without trying too hard.

What made the evening special went far beyond the table. Conversations flowed stories of service, of journeys across Asia and beyond, and how Rotary became part of a lifelong commitment to giving, even through his profession.

In between, we caught glimpses of Madam’s earlier days in the public eye now replaced with a quieter grace that still shines just as brightly.

It was an evening filled with sincerity not loud, not formal just genuine hearts connected through purpose.

And in that moment, we were reminded: We are already blessed with everything we need not to compete, but to serve.

Service Above Self.

Not every garden is meant to be seen. Some are meant to be felt. 🌹

On 21 November, we spent part of our day at the Chakra Rose Garden a space within the 雅聞湖濱療癒森林 Arwin Therapy Garden in Tainan, where nature is thoughtfully shaped to support well-being.

Designed around the idea of balance and healing, the garden brings together roses and herbs in a harmonious layout, inspired by classic European garden styles creating a calm, reflective space that invites you to slow down, even if just for a moment.

Beyond the garden, the vision extends further. Natural ingredients are transformed into wellness and skincare products, creating value not just for visitors, but for the local community as well.

We were also warmly welcomed with a thoughtful gesture a small surprise prepared for each of us, made possible through the kind arrangement of Past President Dr. William Choy of Rotary Club Taipei 台北扶輪社. A simple touch, but one that reflected genuine hospitality.

What stayed with us wasn’t just the beauty but the intention behind it. Because spaces like this remind us well-being is part of service too.

“Like a rose, healing takes time but when nurtured with care, it quietly transforms everything around it.”

Service Above Self.

Under the sun, every grain tells a story. ☀️

At Jingzaijiao Tile-paved Salt Fields, we witnessed a unique way of producing salt where broken pieces of pottery are laid across the salt pans to prevent the crystals from mixing with the soil, resulting in cleaner and higher-quality salt.

Over time, this method has shaped not just the land, but a way of life one that carries patience, skill, and generations of knowledge.

“Like salt, true value is often unseen but essential in every life it touches.”

What we saw was more than a process. It was heritage, sustained by people who continue to preserve it with care.

For us, it was a quiet reminder that service does not always need to be seen, but it must always be felt.

Service Above Self.

Pain turned into purpose. 💙

On 21 November 2025, we began our day in Chiayi with a visit to the 高跟鞋教堂 High Heel Wedding Church a striking 17-metre blue glass structure along the coast.

Despite its name, it isn’t a religious church but a symbolic space created to represent love, dignity, and hope once taken away from many in this community.

Behind its beauty lies a deeper history. This region was once affected by Blackfoot Disease, a condition linked to contaminated groundwater that changed many lives especially for women who lost not just their health, but also opportunities for marriage and normalcy.

The high heel stands as a symbol of what was once lost and what a community chose to reclaim.

Today, it has transformed the area into a place of movement and livelihood drawing visitors, supporting local businesses, and giving new life to the coastal community.

For us, it was more than a landmark. It was a reminder that true service is not only about giving but about restoring dignity, identity, and hope.

Service Above Self.
