💧 SPA Supports Youth Innovation at UMS Borneo Festival of Ideas 2026

The Sabah Plumber Association (SPA) was pleased to attend the Borneo Festival of Ideas 2026, organised by Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS).

SPA was represented by President Dr. Carmen Wong, ASDK, Vice President Mr. Teo Seng Peng, and Executive Secretary Ms. Adila.

During the visit, the SPA representatives had the opportunity to view and learn about various innovative projects developed by students and young innovators, including ideas related to rainwater harvesting, roof cooling, emergency water filtration, sustainable materials, recycling and environmental solutions.

SPA is encouraged to see young people applying creativity, science and engineering to address real-world challenges involving water, the environment and sustainability.

As an industry association, SPA believes that the future of the plumbing and water sector depends not only on professional skills and industry standards, but also on innovation, education and the development of the next generation.

We congratulate UMS, the organisers and all participating students and innovators for providing a meaningful platform where ideas can be shared, tested and developed.

SPA looks forward to strengthening collaboration between academia, industry and young talents, and creating more opportunities for innovative ideas to move beyond the classroom towards practical applications.

💧 SPA出席UMS Borneo Festival of Ideas 2026｜支持青年创新与可持续发展

沙巴水喉同业公会（SPA）日前出席由 马来西亚沙巴大学（Universiti Malaysia Sabah, UMS） 举办的 Borneo Festival of Ideas 2026。

SPA由主席 Dr. Carmen Wong, ASDK、副主席 Mr. Teo Seng Peng 及执行秘书 Ms. Adila 代表出席。

活动期间，SPA代表参观了学生及青年创新团队展示的多项作品，其中包括雨水收集、屋顶降温、紧急净水、可持续材料、资源循环及环境解决方案等创新概念。

看到年轻一代运用创意、科学与工程知识，从实际的水资源、环境及可持续发展问题出发，寻找解决方案，令人鼓舞。

SPA相信，水喉与水务行业的未来，不仅需要专业技能与行业标准，更需要创新、教育以及新一代人才的培养。

我们谨向 UMS、主办团队以及所有参与的学生与青年创新者 表示祝贺，感谢他们提供一个让创意能够交流、实践与成长的平台。

WORLD PLUMBING DAY 2027 @ UMS | PLANNING & EXCHANGE

Today, the Sabah Plumber Association (SPA) team, led by President Dr. Carmen Wong, Vice President Mr. Teo Seng Peng, together with the Secretary and Executive Secretary Ms. Adila, had a productive discussion with Professor Jidon of the Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) on the planning of World Plumbing Day 2027 @ UMS.

What initially began as a one-day university programme is now being explored as a three-day programme from 25–27 March 2027, followed by a Gala Dinner on 28 March.

The proposed programme will feature professional conferences, forums, technical seminars, a mini carnival, inter-university innovation competitions and a Water Gun Challenge, bringing together academia, industry, students and regional partners.

We look forward to developing World Plumbing Day 2027 into a meaningful platform for knowledge exchange, innovation, industry engagement and future talent development.

2027世界水喉日 @ 沙巴大学｜筹备交流

今天，沙巴水喉同业公会（SPA）团队与沙巴大学（UMS）工程学院 Professor Jidon 就 2027世界水喉日的筹备与整体规划进行了深入交流。

原本一天的大学活动构想，目前正逐步规划为 2027年3月25日至27日三天系列活动，并于28日举行庆典晚宴。

拟议活动内容包括专业大会、专题论坛、技术研讨会、迷你嘉年华、大学之间的创意创新比赛及水枪挑战赛，希望汇聚大学、行业、学生及区域伙伴，共同促进专业交流、技术创新、行业合作与青年人才发展。

期待与各方携手，一步一步推动 2027世界水喉日 @ 沙巴大学。

SPA Breakfast Gathering with Singapore Plumbing Society

Dr. Carmen Wong Wui Meng, President of the Sabah Plumber Association (SPA), together with Mr. Nigel Choy from the Sabah Trade and Tourism Office Singapore (STTOS), recently had a pleasant breakfast gathering in Singapore with Mr. Steven Tang, President of the Singapore Plumbing Society (SPS), and Mr. Dickrose, Immediate Past President of SPS.

The gathering provided a relaxed and valuable opportunity to exchange views on the development of the plumbing industry, professional exchange, and ways to strengthen connections between the plumbing communities of Sabah and Singapore.

During the conversation, Dr. Wong also shared some initial ideas for World Plumbing Day 2027, which SPA is planning in collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), and exchanged views on potential future engagement involving industry, education and young talents from both sides.

SPA sincerely appreciates Mr. Steven Tang and Mr. Dickrose for taking the time to meet with us and for sharing their valuable industry experience, ideas and advice. We also extend our appreciation to STTOS for its continued support in strengthening connections between Sabah and Singapore.

A simple breakfast gathering is more than just a meeting — it is an opportunity to build friendship, deepen mutual understanding and open the door to future engagement.

沙巴水喉业公会（SPA）主席黄慧敏博士日前在新加坡与 Sabah Trade and Tourism Office Singapore（STTOS）的 Nigel Choy 先生，一同与新加坡水喉商公会（Singapore Plumbing Society, SPS）会长 Mr. Steven Tang 及卸任会长 Mr. Dickrose进行了一场轻松愉快的早餐交流。

此次聚会以轻松交流为主，大家就水喉行业发展、专业交流，以及如何进一步加强沙巴与新加坡两地业界之间的联系，分享了不少宝贵意见。

交流期间，黄慧敏博士也分享了 SPA 与**马来西亚沙巴大学（UMS）**筹划 **2027年世界水喉日（World Plumbing Day 2027）**活动的一些初步构想，并就未来两地在行业、教育及青年交流方面的可能性交换意见。

Courtesy Visit & Strategic Discussion with MATRADE Sabah

Sabah Plumber Association (SPA), represented by President Dr. Carmen Wong Wui Meng, Vice President Mr. SP Teo Seng Peng, and Executive Secretary Ms. Adilah Sudirman, held a productive meeting with MATRADE Sabah Director, Mr. Adli Haikal Abdul Hanib.

The discussion focused on strategic collaboration, export development, business matching, and potential cooperation for World Plumbing Day 2027 / Plumbing Asia 2027.

SPA Visits SIRIM Sabah to Strengthen Strategic Collaboration for the Plumbing Industry

The Sabah Plumber Association (SPA) recently paid a courtesy visit to SIRIM Sabah, where the delegation was warmly received by Regional Director Ms. Rommella @ Genevieve Binti Osmand and the SIRIM Academy team.

The SPA delegation was led by President Dr. Carmen Wong, accompanied by Vice President Mr. Teo Seng Peng and Association Advisor Mr. Carl Moonson.

During the meeting, both parties held productive discussions on potential collaborations in professional training, competency development, industry standards, certification, and continuous professional development (CPD) for the plumbing industry in Sabah.

SPA also shared its upcoming initiatives, including the Sandakan Professional Training Programme 2026, World Plumbing Day 2027, and the proposed Sabah Plumbing Professional Development Framework.

Both organisations exchanged valuable insights on the current challenges facing the plumbing industry and explored opportunities to work together in developing a more competent, professional, and future-ready workforce for Sabah.

Building Partnerships, Shaping the Future

Today, we had the pleasure of attending a productive luncheon meeting with Prof. Dr. Jidon Janaun and the team from Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), together with SPA Vice President Mr. Teo Seng Peng and SPA Advisor Mr. Carl Moonson.

Although it was an informal lunch, the discussions were both meaningful and inspiring. We exchanged ideas on the future of the plumbing and water industry, talent development, academia–industry collaboration, and the strategic planning for World Plumbing Day 2027.

One key takeaway from today’s discussion was that lasting impact comes not only from organising successful events, but from building sustainable partnerships that connect academia, industry, government, and the community.

On behalf of the Sabah Plumber Association (SPA), we would like to express our sincere appreciation to Prof. Dr. Jidon Janaun and the UMS team for their valuable insights and warm hospitality. Strengthening Industry Connections in Sandakan 🤝💧

During the Sabah Plumber Association (SPA)’s recent visit to Sandakan, SPA President Dr. Carmen Wong Wui Meng was joined by Vice President Mr. Teo Seng Peng, Advisor Mr. Carl Moonson, and Sandakan AJK Mr. Liao Sui Kong for a friendly tea gathering with Datuk Frankie P**n, Puan Liau Fui Fui, and Tuan Asraf, Head of ABM Sandakan.

The relaxed gathering provided a great opportunity to exchange ideas on the development of Sabah’s plumbing and water industry, workforce training, technical education, and future collaboration. Meaningful conversations like these help strengthen relationships and encourage greater cooperation among industry stakeholders.

As a non-profit industry association, SPA remains committed to working closely with government agencies, educational institutions, industry partners, and the community to promote professionalism, skills development, and sustainable growth within Sabah’s plumbing and water sector.
