SME Association of Sabah (SME Sabah) was delighted to welcome representatives from Canon Marketing Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. to the SME Sabah Office for a courtesy visit and meaningful exchange of ideas.

Representing Canon Marketing Malaysia were Mr Calvin Liew, Branch Manager of Canon Kota Kinabalu Branch, and Mr Mike Wong, Group Manager. They were warmly received by SME Sabah President Dr Tan Hui San (Deledda) and Vice President cm Director of Partnership Development Mr Chai Nyit Ngen.

The visit provided an excellent opportunity to discuss the evolving business landscape, the importance of digital transformation, and potential collaboration opportunities that could benefit the SME community in Sabah.

During the meeting, Canon Marketing Malaysia extended an invitation to Dr Tan Hui San (Deledda) to serve as a panelist at the upcoming Canon Think Big Series 2026 – Kota Kinabalu Edition.

This year's theme, "Connected. Future-Ready.", will focus on how businesses can embrace technology, strengthen collaboration, and accelerate digital transformation to enhance productivity, build resilience, and achieve sustainable growth. The event is expected to bring together business leaders, industry players, and public institutions to share insights on emerging technologies, data-driven strategies, and innovative partnerships that will shape the future of business.

SME Sabah Supports Member's Business Expansion and Brand Launch

SME Association of Sabah (SME Sabah) was honoured to attend the Grand Opening Ceremony of KC Media HQ and the official launch of the "DiRuma Resipi" brand (formerly known as Mama's Resipi), organised by our member, Saveur Borneo Global Sdn. Bhd.

The event marked a significant milestone in the company's corporate growth and brand development journey, reflecting its continued commitment to innovation, market expansion, and business excellence. The ceremony was officiated by Guest of Honour, Yang Berhormat Datuk Chan Foong Hin, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Malaysia.

Representing SME Sabah were Honorary Legal Advisor Datuk Judy Hiew, President Dr Tan Hui San (Deledda), and members of the Association, who joined distinguished guests, industry stakeholders, business partners, and members of the community in commemorating this important occasion.

Highlights of the programme included the official opening ceremony, guest speeches, ribbon-cutting ceremony, the launch of the 9 Star, Suk Garden, and DiRuma Resipi product brands, followed by networking sessions and cultural performances.

As an association dedicated to supporting the growth and success of local enterprises, SME Sabah is pleased to witness the achievements of its members and their continued efforts in building stronger brands, creating business opportunities, and contributing to Sabah's economic development.

AI & Xiaohongshu (RedNote) Digital Transformation Workshop

SME Association of Sabah (SME Sabah) successfully organised the AI & Xiaohongshu (RedNote) Digital Transformation Workshop, attracting approximately 80 participants comprising entrepreneurs, business owners, SME members, and friends from various industries.

Organised by the SME Sabah Digital & Technology Bureau, the workshop was led by Mr Weiss Ang Ka Hwei, Organising Chairman of the programme and Director of the SME Sabah Digital & Technology Bureau. He oversaw the planning and coordination of the workshop, providing SMEs with valuable insights into digital transformation and emerging technologies.

The workshop was attended by SME Sabah Honorary Advisor Dr Serrene Tan, President Dr Tan Hui San (Deledda), Vice President cm Director of Partnership Development Mr Chai Nyit Ngen, Council Member cm Director of Women Entrepreneur, Education & Training Ts Dr Sally Chen, Council Member cm Director of NuGen Connexion Mr Norman Ng Yeechye, together with members and invited guests.

As part of SME Sabah's commitment to bringing quality knowledge and expertise to Sabah SMEs, the Association invited and sponsored the travel of two distinguished speakers: Dr Vincent Chew from Peninsular Malaysia and Mr Liu Shijie from China.

Dr Vincent Chew, a Business Transformation Coach and Strategic Consultant, shared practical strategies on helping SMEs navigate business challenges, improve operational efficiency, and achieve sustainable growth through transformation, innovation, and the practical application of AI.

Meanwhile, Mr Liu Shijie, Head of Overseas Marketing Channels, provided valuable insights into Xiaohongshu's (RedNote) overseas ecosystem and international market expansion. His session highlighted how businesses can leverage content marketing, digital engagement, and platform-driven strategies to reach new audiences, expand into new markets, and unlock greater business opportunities.

The workshop provided a valuable platform for SMEs to explore digital transformation strategies, embrace emerging technologies, and strengthen their competitiveness in today's rapidly evolving business environment.

SME Sabah extends its sincere appreciation to Sabah Tourism Board, Samsung Malaysia, and CelcomDigi for their support in making this programme a success.

SME Association of Sabah (SME Sabah), represented by President Dr Tan Hui San (Deledda) and Vice President cm director of Partnership Development Mr Chai Nyit Ngen (Sunny), was honoured to receive a courtesy visit from the SIE2026 Organising Committee at the SME Sabah Office.

The delegation, comprising Dr. Andrew Sim, Secretary General of FSI and Chairman of the SIE2026 Marketing Committee, Mr. Ng Vui Chuan, Deputy President of FSI and member of the SIE2026 Organising Committee, and Mr. Alan Lo, SIE2026 Executive, briefed SME Sabah on the upcoming Sabah International Expo (SIE) 2026 and explored potential areas of collaboration.

Jointly organised by the State Government of Sabah, the Federation of Sabah Industries (FSI), and the Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MICCI) Sabah Branch, SIE has been held biennially since 2000. The forthcoming SIE2026 will take place from 4 to 6 September 2026 in Kota Kinabalu.

The discussion focused on promoting SIE2026 and encouraging greater participation from Sabah businesses, providing SMEs with opportunities to expand their networks, showcase their products and services, and explore new business and investment opportunities.

SME Sabah appreciates the visit and looks forward to supporting initiatives that contribute to the growth, innovation, and internationalization of Sabah's SME community.

SME Association of Sabah (SME Sabah), represented by President Dr Tan Hui San (Deledda), Vice President Ir Chia Khuin Fung, Council Member cm Director of Marketing & Communication Mr Wilson Chia Shing How, Council Member cm Director of Agriculture Mr Yap Por Chik, Council Member Mr Christopher Martin Tan Sai Khyung, and Members, were honoured to attend the special screening of "A Letter to Grandma" (给阿嬷的情书), hosted by the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Kota Kinabalu and co-organised by the Sabah Malaysia-China Friendship Association.

The event commenced with welcoming remarks by Consul General Zhu Xinglong, who highlighted the importance of cultural exchange and people-to-people connections in strengthening mutual understanding and friendship between Malaysia and China.

Through its touching storyline, "A Letter to Grandma" beautifully captures the themes of family bonds, filial piety, love, sacrifice, and the passage of time. The film serves as a heartfelt reminder of the importance of cherishing our loved ones and preserving the values that connect generations.

SME Sabah greatly appreciates the invitation to participate in this meaningful cultural and community engagement initiative. Beyond its artistic and emotional impact, the event provided an opportunity to foster stronger cultural understanding, deepen bilateral friendship, and strengthen ties among community leaders, organisations, and stakeholders from both countries.

SME Association of Sabah (SME Sabah), represented by President Dr Tan Hui San (Deledda), participated in an online meeting with PERNAS to discuss the upcoming Franchise Business Engagement Session 2026 in Sabah.

The discussion focused on a half-day engagement session, tentatively scheduled for mid-August 2026, aimed at promoting franchise development among SMEs and entrepreneurs in Sabah. The session will introduce the various programmes and support initiatives offered by PERNAS, including financing facilities, business development assistance, and advisory support to help address challenges faced by SMEs.

The programme is open to businesses from all industries and is not limited to the food and beverage sector. Participants will gain valuable insights into franchising as a pathway for business growth, expansion, and sustainability, while learning about the opportunities and resources available through PERNAS.

SME Sabah looks forward to collaborating closely with PERNAS to create greater awareness and opportunities for Sabah SMEs to grow and thrive through franchise development.
