*The Importance of Understanding the Early Symptoms of Dementia*

Today, I had the privilege of speaking to 120 seniors at All Saints Church, Kota Kinabalu, about dementia awareness. The strong response reminded me of one thing:
Early understanding can change the entire journey for a family.

*Dementia does not start with memory loss alone. It often begins with small, subtle changes:*

Misplacing items more often

Difficulty finding the right words

Mood or personality changes

Getting confused in familiar places

Losing interest in hobbies

Repeating questions

Struggling with planning or simple tasks

Recognising these early signs allows families to seek help sooner, plan better, and support their loved ones with dignity and patience.

Dementia is not a normal part of ageing but early awareness is the key to better care, better understanding, and better quality of life.

Let’s continue building a dementia‑friendly Sabah together.

25th April 2026 : Celebrating Sabah’s first cohort of 16 Healthcare Assistants — made possible through the support of the Hasanah Social Enterprise Fund 2025.

This program opened doors for young Sabahans to receive structured, professional caregiving training — equipping them with skills in eldercare, dementia support, safety, communication and community‑based care.

Because of Yayasan Hasanah’s commitment to social impact, these youths now step into a profession that brings dignity, comfort and hope to families across Sabah.

Their journey is just beginning, but their contribution will be felt for years to come.

Thank you, Yayasan Hasanah, for believing in Sabah’s caregiving future.
And congratulations to all 16 graduates — you are the new strength of our care ecosystem.
