Comfort Aged Care Centre (康福樂園) is designed to cater for the needs of clients with dementia and other neurological conditions such as stroke and Parkinson Disease and post surgery care. To free your valuable day time and relieve your mental stress,
2. To ensure that your beloved mom or dad are maintaining a better quality ageing life in terms of physical, mental and social aspects. Physical activities to maintain and restore fitness;
2. Functional training to regain ability for daily activities;
3. Cognitive stimulation to rejuvenate and improve cognition. Some of the group activities and exercises are specially designed for certain clients, such as memory games, board games (Bingo and UNO), paintings, Karaoke and craft sessions.

*A Successful First Pro-Tem Meeting of Sabah Aged Care Service Providers*

Today, I had the privilege of chairing a discussion among representatives from eight aged care service providers and one caregiver training academy in Sabah.

The meeting, held from 10:00am to 12:30pm, brought together 12 participants who shared a common passion for serving older persons and supporting their families. We were also encouraged by the interest shown by two other operators who wished to attend but were unable to make it.

One of the most meaningful parts of the meeting was the introduction session, where participants shared: ✅ Their professional backgrounds
✅ How they became involved in aged care services
✅ When they started their services
✅ The personal reasons and experiences that inspired them to serve older persons

Although everyone came from different backgrounds and organizations, a common theme emerged throughout the discussions: a genuine commitment to improving the quality of life of older persons and preparing Sabah for a rapidly ageing population.

The participants also exchanged views on workforce development, caregiver training, quality standards, healthy ageing initiatives and the importance of greater collaboration within the aged care sector.

As there are still many important matters to consider, including future direction, objectives and structure, participants agreed to take time to reflect on the discussions and meet again on 3 October 2026.

I would like to express my sincere appreciation to everyone who participated and contributed their valuable ideas.

Every meaningful journey begins with a conversation. Today's discussion was an encouraging first step towards building stronger cooperation for the benefit of older persons and their families in Sabah.

I am grateful for the opportunity to share a Dementia Awareness Talk entitled: "The Importance of Understanding the Early Symptoms of Dementia" at Sabah Evangelical Mission (SEM), Kepayan on 29 August 2026.

The session was attended by 37 participants, including church members, family caregivers and members of the community who were keen to learn more about dementia and the importance of early recognition of its symptoms.

During the talk, we discussed:
✅ The difference between normal ageing and dementia
✅ Common early warning signs of dementia
✅ Why early diagnosis is important
✅ How families can support loved ones living with dementia
✅ The importance of seeking professional assessment when memory concerns arise

I was encouraged by the participants' interest, thoughtful questions and active engagement throughout the session.

My sincere appreciation to the leadership and members of Sabah Evangelical Mission, Kepayan for the warm hospitality and excellent arrangements. Special thanks to Ar. Henry Chu for presenting me with a token of appreciation on behalf of the church.

Together, let us continue to raise awareness about dementia and build a more caring and dementia-friendly community.

Courtesy Visit to YB Datuk Julita Majungki

I am honoured to have led a delegation of private aged care operators in a courtesy visit to YB Datuk Julita Majungki, Minister of Women, Health and Community Wellbeing Sabah, on 19 August 2026.

During the meeting, we shared an overview of the current aged care landscape in Sabah, highlighted the growing challenges and opportunities facing the sector, and discussed potential areas of collaboration to better support Sabah's ageing population.

We are grateful to YB Datuk Julita and her Ministry for the warm reception, generous allocation of time, and openness in listening to the concerns and aspirations of the aged care sector. The discussion was constructive, encouraging, and focused on finding practical solutions for the future.

One of the key outcomes of the meeting was YB Datuk Julita's encouragement for the aged care sector to establish an official association, which would provide a stronger platform for engagement and collaboration with the Ministry on matters affecting older persons and aged care services in Sabah.

On behalf of all attending operators, I would like to express our sincere appreciation to YB Datuk Julita and her team. We look forward to building a closer partnership with the Ministry to promote quality aged care services, workforce development, and healthy ageing initiatives for the benefit of Sabah's elderly community.

Dementia Awareness Talk at Basel Church Likas Draws Record Attendance

I am deeply grateful and encouraged to share that my 6th Dementia Awareness Talk of 2026 was successfully held on 15 August 2026 at Basel Church Likas, Kota Kinabalu.

The talk, entitled:

"The Importance of Understanding the Early Symptoms of Dementia"

attracted 171 attendees, making it the largest turnout in my dementia awareness outreach series to date.

During the session, we discussed:

✅ The difference between normal ageing and dementia
✅ Common early warning signs of dementia
✅ Why early recognition is important
✅ The benefits of early diagnosis and intervention
✅ How families can better support loved ones living with dementia

I was heartened by the overwhelming response, active participation, and thoughtful questions raised by attendees. This strong turnout reflects the growing public interest in understanding dementia and supporting individuals and families affected by the condition.

I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the leadership and organising committee of Basel Church Likas for their warm hospitality, excellent arrangements, and commitment to community education.

As a past President and current committee member of the Sabah Alzheimer's Disease Support Association (Sabah Az), I remain committed to promoting dementia awareness and encouraging the message:

Representing Sabah's Private Aged Care Sector at KPWKM Stakeholder Engagement Session on 9th August 2026

I was honoured to be invited by the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) to represent private aged care operators in Sabah during the recent Stakeholder Engagement Session on the Development of National Care Standards for Older Persons held at Hyatt Regency Kota Kinabalu.

During the session, I shared some of the key challenges currently faced by private aged care operators in Sabah, including:

✅ Workforce shortages and caregiver retention challenges
✅ Lack of dedicated aged care training pathways in Sabah
✅ Fragmented regulatory requirements across multiple government agencies
✅ Delayed implementation of Act 802 (Private Aged Healthcare Facilities and Services Act 2018)
✅ The impact of SST on welfare-based aged care services
✅ The need for clear classification of care levels and service standards
✅ Recognition of emerging occupations such as Psycho-Social Care Assistants

I am encouraged that many of the issues raised generated active discussion among stakeholders. Several participants referred to the presentation during the open dialogue session, and many of the concerns highlighted were also reflected in the closing remarks by KPWKM Ketua Setiausaha, YBhg. Datuk Dr. Maziah Che Yusoff.

I would also like to express my appreciation to Puan Zuraidah and the KPWKM team for providing private aged care operators with the opportunity to share our views directly with policymakers.

As aged care operators, we fully support the Government's efforts to improve standards, quality and safety. At the same time, we hope that the realities and challenges faced on the ground will continue to be heard, understood, and addressed through practical and sustainable policies.

One of the key questions raised during the session was:

"If experienced private aged care operators stop expanding, stop renewing their licences, or leave the sector altogether, who will care for Sabah's growing elderly population?"

This question highlights the importance of developing practical, sustainable, and forward-looking policies to support the aged care sector as Malaysia transitions into an ageing society.

Together, let us build a more sustainable, professional, and compassionate aged care ecosystem for future generations.

这是一场约60分钟的失智症醒觉讲座，吸引了约 70位会众及社区人士 出席参与。

Dementia Awareness Talk at New Life Church

I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation to New Life Church for inviting me to share a dementia awareness talk on 31 July.

The topic of the evening was:

"The Importance of Early Diagnosis of Dementia"

Around 70 participants attended the 60-minute session, where we discussed:

✅ What is dementia?
✅ Early warning signs of dementia
✅ Why early diagnosis matters
✅ Differentiating dementia from normal ageing
✅ Risk reduction and prevention strategies

At Comfort Aged Care Centre, we believe that quality care begins with continuous learning and professional development.
We are proud that our care staff participated in the Program CareACT untuk Penjaga Warga Emas held at Hospital UMS on 23 July 2026. The program, organised by the Department of Psychiatry, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) and Malaysia Medical Association Sabah (MMA Sabah), provided valuable knowledge and practical skills to support caregivers in their important role.
The training introduced the principles of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), helping caregivers strengthen communication skills, psychological resilience, and person-centred approaches when caring for older adults.
