Now this is our favourite kind of success story!💧🙌

After months of planning, trekking through difficult terrain, laying pipelines, and working alongside the community, this is the result!

It means dozens of families no longer have to rely on unreliable water sources, and the community now has a water system they can continue independantly managing and maintaining for years to come.

A special thank you to Mah Sing Foundation for partnering with us to help make clean water a reality for the families of Kampung Melangkap Datau Batu 2. Another great success to our years-long Sustainable Livelihoods Programme project collaboration!❤️

Can you guess what this hardworking little helper is doing after school?

While his family was preparing their raised bed, he came along to help too! Under the hot sun, backpack still on, there he was carefully helping to fill up the raised bed 😂♥️

Honestly, we don’t often see children this young getting so interested in farming, so this little moment really caught our attention!

And those old leaves and fruit scraps you see in the raised bed? They’re actually little superheroes for the soil! 🌱

As they slowly break down, they return nutrients and organic matter to the soil, help retain moisture, and create a better environment for healthy vegetables to grow. Who knew something we normally throw away could be so useful?

And perhaps an afternoon getting his hands dirty and helping his family isn’t such a bad break from screen time either 😂

Now we just have to wait and see what this little family farm looks like once everything starts growing! 🥬♥️

That's the story behind this little farm in Kampung Bukit Bendera!

Before the gravity water system was installed, families had to prioritise every drop of water for cooking, washing, and other daily needs. Farming simply wasn't an option.

Today, reliable access to clean water means families can grow their own vegetables, strengthen their food security, and spend less on groceries.

One project.
One water system.
A ripple effect that continues long after the pipes are installed.

Meet John, one of the villagers who became our volunteers’ builder, technical guide, and teacher for the day!

With years of hands-on experience, John patiently showed the volunteers how to drill and assemble the purlins for the bridge, while making sure everyone understood what they were doing and could work safely 💪

And that’s something we really appreciate about volunteering alongside our rural communities. You don’t just come here to help, you learn from the people too!

Between all the drilling and building, there’s also a chance to share meaningful stories, exchanging skills, learning about each other’s cultures, and simply enjoying the experience together🥰

For us, seeing villagers and volunteers laughing, learning, and working side by side is probably one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.

Whether you’re a student group, university, corporate team, or even a group of friends, you can experience rural Sabah beyond the usual tourist trail through a half-day activity, full-day programme, or even an overnight community immersion!

A heartfelt thank you to MAGGI for supporting 20 rural families in Kota Belud on their journey towards better food security through the donated fund from this year's meaningful Jom Masak & Menang Bersama MAGGI® campaign!🌱♥️

We were also incredibly grateful for the opportunity to be part of the weekend event at Suria Sabah, and showcase the beautiful handmade crafts created by the talented rural women from Kota Belud.

It was such a joy meeting so many amazing people, sharing the stories behind our communities, and connecting with everyone who stopped by our booth!

To everyone who took the time to support our artisans’ work, learn more about our work, or simply stopped by for a chat, thank you for being part of the journey too!💚

We're excited to see these 20 families begin putting what they've learned into practice, and we can't wait to watch their farms grow in the months ahead!🌱

Parts of Melangkap Baru’s gravity water pipeline run extremely close to the riverbank of the Kadamaian River, leaving the system vulnerable whenever heavy floods hit the area💧

At the moment, villagers are relying on a temporary water source that can dry up quickly. For them to have stable and reliable water access again, simply reconnecting the broken pipes won’t be enough.

The challenging part? The river carries strong water flow coming down from Mount Kinabalu. During heavy rain, the current can become extremely powerful, washing away almost anything in its path.

That’s also why our team only carries out assessments here during sunny weather, when conditions are safer for us to trace the problem and properly plan what needs to be done next 💪

Based on our ground assessment, we believe the better long-term solution is to relocate the pipeline to a safer route, using new SIRIM-certified polypipes and strategic hanging methods to reduce the risk of future flood damage.

We can’t control natural disasters, but we can plan smarter around the risks and build more sustainable solutions that better protect the community’s water access in the long run!💪

Early in the morning, Efandi headed to Kawasan Padang, Melangkap Baru with Jubilee and the villagers to inspect the gravity water pipeline running along Sungai Panataran.

Under the hot sun, with soaked feet and rocks under every step, they followed the pipeline along the river to figure out one thing: where did it all go wrong? 👀

Along the way, they discovered disconnected sections and areas where the pipeline had been affected by previous floods.

It might look like a walk along the river, but this is what happens before any repair work can even begin. The team first needs to get on the ground, trace the problem, understand what happened, and figure out what can be done next.

"I can now grow my own food and save on daily expenses." 🌱

That's what Puan Monica shared after harvesting the winter melons you see in this video, all grown by her own!

There was a time when she relied on buying vegetables from the market, carefully stretching every ringgit to provide for her family.

Today, she's harvesting fresh produce right outside her home!

Every fresh harvest she picks is one less thing she has to buy. It may seem like a small change, but over time, those small savings can make a real difference for families living in rural communities.

With the right knowledge, support, and opportunities, more families can grow their own food, reduce their daily expenses, and build greater food security.
