π’A New Hawksbill Turtle Nesting Record at Walai Penyu Conservation Parkπ’
We are delighted to share another significant milestone in our conservation journey. Our dedicated conservation team recently recorded a newly identified Hawksbill Turtle coming ashore on the beach of Libaran Island and successfully nesting, laying an impressive 101 eggs.
As part of our ongoing monitoring and conservation programme, the turtle was carefully measured, documented, and tagged for future identification. The nesting female recorded a carapace length of 79 cm and a carapace width of 72 cm. She was assigned identification tags BJ 5543 on her left flipper and BJ 5544 on her right flipper. These records contribute valuable scientific data that help researchers track individual turtles, monitor nesting activity, and support long-term conservation efforts throughout Sabahβs waters. π
Witnessing a sea turtle nesting in the wild is a truly remarkable and unforgettable experience. It serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of protecting these endangered marine species and safeguarding the beaches they depend on for survival.
Every successful nesting event represents renewed hope for the future of sea turtles. Through continuous conservation work, scientific research, habitat protection, and community involvement, we are helping to create a future where these magnificent creatures can continue to thrive in our oceans for generations to come. π
We extend our heartfelt appreciation to our dedicated field team, conservation staff, volunteers, partners, and visitors whose support makes these conservation successes possible. Together, we are contributing to the protection and preservation of Sabahβs rich marine biodiversity, one nest at a time.
