Are you aware??
Companies with five or more employees are required to appoint an OSH (Occupational Safety and Health) Coordinator. This requirement is mandated by the Occupational Safety and Health (Amendment) Act 2022, which took effect on June 1, 2024. The OSH Coordinator's role is to assist the employer in managing safety and health matters within the workplace.

The target audience for the training includes management, staff, and owners of SMEs.
Objectives of the training: at the end of the course, the participants will be able to:
1) Understand OSH requirements for SMEs
2) Enhance OSH awareness
3) Understand the role of OSH coordinator

Date : 04th - 06th September 2026 (3 Days)
Time : 9.00 am – 5.30 pm

FMFF CIRCULAR 035/FMFF/2026

Dear Members,

PARTICIPATION IN FIATA WORLD CONGRESS 6-9 OCTOBER 2026, MILANO, ITALY

FMFF is pleased to announce that this year’s FIATA World Congress will be held in Milano, Italy in conjunction with the 100th anniversary celebration of FIATA.
This is a momentous event in FIATA’s history, and many delegates are expected to converge in Milano.
FMFF wish to inform that FMFF will be attending the FWC 2026 and setting up a Malaysian Pavilion to house Malaysian companies under one roof, to showcase their products and services.
This will be a similar arrangement to the Malaysian Pavilion we set up in FWC 2025, Hanoi, with all exhibitors sharing the costs of the booth, including design and construction.
Participating companies that are registered with Matrade Madani Exporters Directory are eligible to claim up to RM25,000.00 under the Market Development Grant (MDG), under the activity of trade Fair.

The registration fee for Conference delegate is Euro 750. If we have a significant number of delegates, we shall try to get the organiser to give Early Bird rate of Euro 700 per delegate.
We are requesting for early confirmation from our members to confirm their interest to participate either as conference delegate, exhibitor or both, so that we can plan and make arrangements with the organiser on number of booths taken, the design and construction of Malaysian Pavilion and the related costs, including requesting for Early Bird rate for our Conference delegates.

The road transport scenario around Port Klang
Let us explore the road transport scenario centered around Port Klang and its hinterland. Port has no doubt become the most important port in the country and second only to Singapore in the ASEAN region.

Today Port Klang handled 6,600,000 TEUs of containers in import and export volume. This volume is nearly totally handled by trucks with very small volume actually railed in or out of the terminals. With this volume slightly over 70% of the boxes are handled via Westport terminal.
In this review we will take both terminals as a single entity. The volume of 6.6 million TEUs can be translated into 6 million boxes in road transport as the haulage operators are charging on per box basis.

In this review, based on our members' experiences, the hinterland of Port Klang is deemed on an average of 75km. At this distance, without traffic congestion, a truck operating on a 12-hours shift can achieve 3 round trips per day. The truck operator could achieve 3 round-trips daily if the operation can be carried up within external delays.

According to the SPAD report, on the average, a truck operator could achieve only 1.65 round-trip daily. ( Prior to 2000, a 3 round-trip had been achieved almost on daily basis). Indeed, a 45% loss in delays at various points of the operations.

This means every truck is wasting 45% of the 12-hour shift simply burning away its fuel.
Let assume that a truck is normally operated at 60 kmph without traffic delay, this means it will burn about 20 liter of diesel according to our members who share their details. While an idling engine is estimated to consume 30% of a running engine or 6 liter per hour, based on the wasted or idling delay of 5.6 hours each day, the truck would have had burned 33.6 liters of fuel each day.

With 6 million boxes being handled with a 300 day a year calendar, this means on average each day, 20,000 boxes must be delivered to ensure smooth operations. With 1.65 round-trip achieved by each truck, it means Port Klang should operate some 12,120 trucks daily to avoid any delay. This means each truck wastes 5.4 hours daily as a result of various delays. In 5.4 hours, a truck would have had travelled 324 km or 108 liter of diesel, while an idling engine would consume about 30% of this amount, or 32.4 liters.

And if each truck wastes 32.4 liter of fuel each day, it means each day, the trucks burn 12,120 times 32.4 liter daily by the idling engines. On a daily basis, they would burn or wasted through engine idling 392,688 liters daily or 117,806,400 liters annually. At RM$ 4.07 per liter, we are literally burning away some RM$ 480 million of wasted fuel compounded with a deteriorating environment.

With this unavoidable losses, the average cost of container trucking is estimated at some $8.50 per km per box originating from Port Klang to its hinterland.

Of course, the fallout costs do not include the average 2 million motor car users who are also affected by the traffic scenario across the Klang Valley right up to Seremban. This region will eventually be clogged with heavy traffic congestion as we move into the 2030s.

The question we should address is should we continue to accept this scenario?
