Initially the Centre for University Social Responsibility, IIUM, was established as the expansion of the former Community Service Unit (CENSERVE) under the administration of Student Development Division. Now it stands as a centre under the Office of the Rector with bigger functions and has been re-branded to University Centre for Community Engagement (UCCE - BUDI). The virtue 'budi' is derived fro

m the university's theme which is "The Garden of Knowledge and Virtue". Meaning that this centre should act as a platform to coordinate all community service/virtues activities done by both staff and students. These activities are parts of the University’s social responsibilities to serve the society at large. As CENSERVE has been widely known by both IIUM and the local communities since 1990's, therefore, we have decided to maintain the name CENSERVE as the acronym for ‘Centre for University Social Responsibility’.
