Helping others in the correct ways

Malaysia has been devastated by a big flood event in the previous two months, and some areas that no one expected to flood were flooded. We may witness many people volunteering to aid others in distress as a result of that occurrence. This is unquestionably a positive thing, but did the volunteers assist in the proper manner?
There are some victims who have spoken out about the recent volunteerism actions. They stated that some volunteers just chose the easiest jobs to undertake, which contradicts the goal of volunteerism. Volunteering is meant to relieve victims of their burdens, however some volunteers has abandoned a few houses just because it is too messy for them to help. They only assist those with less work, leaving victims who’s in the direst situations to fend for themselves. This shattered the hearts of these victims. If they genuinely wanted to help people, they should assist everyone instead of leaving a few to struggle by themselves.
The victims also expressed their disappointments with the attitude of volunteers. The victims said that they requested the volunteers to assist them in clearing the house by moving all of the things indoors to the outside, which they did. However, some volunteers mixed the usable things with the trash, forcing the victims to unload everything again after that in order to distinguish by themselves, causing victims more difficulties. Because not all of the things in the house are broken, many of them can be reused again with a little cleaning, but some volunteers assume that everything is broken and trash. The victims are already dealing with a significant loss, thus it is critical that they maintain the valuables in order to reduce their overall loss. Yes, the victims may not have directly requested that the broken and useable items to be distinguished, but it is common sense for people to think for themselves. If they truly want to assist people, they must assist them in all ways imaginable, not only in the forefront.

Our beloved Prophet Muhammad (saw) states in the following hadith: “There is for every apostle a (special) prayer with which he would pray. I wish I could reserve, my prayer for intercession of my Ummah on the Day of Resurrection. - Sahih al-Bukhari 7474
This following hadith leaves no doubt about prophet Muhammad (SAW) loves towards us. Despite going through hardships throughout his life, he still saved his special prayer for his Ummah. He Muhammad (SAW) did not stop thinking about his Ummah. Even when his beloved wife Khadija and his uncle Abu Talib died, and even while he was grieving the loss of his children, he never lost interest in his Ummah and his affection for them never waned.
Many non-believers lived during the time of our Prophet (saw) and observed the prophet's beauty, yet they were not chosen to be among the believers. Despite living centuries after him, we should be grateful for the blessings bestowed upon among us, Muslims who believe in him and follow his path.
I think that the sacrifice made by Prophet (saw) could not be repaid. That is just how great his sacrifice is towards us, Muslims. We should always be praising him salawat to show our gratitude and follow his sunnah’s. The selawat itself is filled with Benefits. Dear Muslims, just imagine how blessed and special we are to be Prophet’s Ummah.
I invite all of us Muslims to praise the Prophet (saw) and Allah (swt) throughout our life. Despite your hectic days. Just spent a moment to praise the Prophet (saw). I could not emphasize more how deep and great is the love of our Prophet Muhammad (saw) is towards his Ummah.
I would always ask myself how much I know about the Prophet(saw). Unfortunately, I would come to thought of shame to think that I deserve any benefits of his with the inducement of how different the extents of his love towards His ummah are.
I believe that everyday Allah gives us a chance of living to do better and give benefits towards the Ummah. Therefore, lets do better everyday and take this chance to extend our love towards Allah and his Prophet(saw).

Ramadan and University Student

Ramadan is the month that is awaited by the Muslims and it will be full of blessings from God. As the days and night goes by , the month before Ramdhan that is Syaaban has arrived and it is the best time for us especially for the Muslim to get fully prepared for the a month fasting session. The question is how to get fully prepared and make sure it is packed with good deeds and amal even though we are as busy as a bee as university students?

Below are the list preparation for Ramadan;

Practice sunnah fasting
It cannot be denied that life as a student is full of hassle and sometimes it is very tiring for certain courses. It is very rewarding to those are capable to fast during Monday and Thursday as the Syaaban and Rejab is the month where Prophet Muhammad PBUH never miss the fasting session except a little (Sahih Muslim, 1156). If not able to complete a day of fasting, just fast a half day every week until you have enough endurance to fasting full day. As the proverb goes ‘better late than never’.

Reciting the Quran
The best time to recite Al Quran is after the Subuh or Maghrib prayer. Try to read as many as possible in the duration of 10-15 minutes with correct ‘Tajweed and Makhraj’. Find one teacher or friend that can supervise your recitation of Al-Quran and steal some free time to go through the tafseer of Quran.

Fulfill the night with qiam
The one third of the night is the best time to perform qiam during the weekend with a lot of various amal like zikir and many more. Therefore, try to reduce the late night movies or late night gaming to make sure you can wake up early in the middle of the night. Small practice can make sure you did not miss the suhoor in the Ramadan as it has many rewards and blessings.

To wrap up this short notes, as A muslim we must grab this oppurtinity to make this Ramahan is full of amal and blessing. May Allah grant us the best Ramadhan and reward Jannah in the hereafter. As an hadith narrated by Abu Huraira,

Abu Huraira reported God's messenger as saying, "He who fasts during Ramadan with faith and seeking his reward from God will have his past sins forgiven; he who prays during the night in Ramadan with faith and seeking his reward from God will have his past sins forgiven; and he who passes Lailat al-qadr [Night of Decree] in prayer with faith and seeking his reward from God will have his past sins forgiven."
(Bukhari and Muslim.)

Nowadays, we can see that most teenagers are busy with online games, drama series and so on. By releasing this situation, I start to think how we as one ummah can change the world. Be the ummah that the world is afraid of, the ummah that can guide the world and free humans from any tyranny. To claim we are the best ummah as mentioned in Surah Ali Imran verse no. 110 “You are the best nation produced [as an example] for mankind. You enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and believe in Allah”, we must change our attitude to what mu’min should be. For the teenagers, try to put ourselves as the warriors to fight our desire because the desire is the first battlefield. If we succeed to win, the other battlefield should be easier.

Start first by using time wisely with some beneficial work such as seeking knowledge, volunteering work and so on. If we go through how the journey of islamic scholars to seek knowledge is, surely we will be aware how weak our desire to achieve the knowledge. For example, Imam Abu Hatim Ar Razi had lived in Basra ( 214H) for one year. After 8 months he was there, all of his money gone and he needed to sell his shirt to survive. Despite this condition, he still went to class to hear some hadith from syaikh although he did not eat anything for two days. It is common for all Talibul ‘ilm (knowledge seekers) at that time to sacrifice all their energy and wealth for the knowledge. When I tried to compare with most of Talibul ‘ilm today, we were defeated. We lost the spirit of seeking knowledge and the sincerity to sacrifice whatever we have to seek the knowledge. It is proven when most students do not really use all that they have today to increase their knowledge. Remember the hadith recorded in Sahih Bukhari that “whoever follows a path in the pursuit of knowledge, Allah will make a path to paradise easy for him”.

I hope this writing can improve my quality of seeking knowledge and influence teenagers to be resilient and the best ummah in the future. Insya-Allah.
