Johor Plantations Group (JPG) and Yayasan JCorp successfully organised the 1 Million Roots for the Future (1MRFF) – Growing Together: Trees for Schools programme at Sungai Johor Eco Retreat (SUNJER), Basir Ismail Estate, from 8 to 9 August 2026.
The programme was officiated by Encik Wan Adlin Wan Mahmood, Head of Commercial & Sustainability Division, JPG, and attended by Puan Rosita Md Ali, Senior Manager, Yayasan JCorp; Tuan Haji Kamaruddin Mohd Ali, Deputy District Education Officer of Kulai (Student Development), Kulai District Education Office; and Puan Halimahton Ab Gapar, Senior Associate, Johor Sustainability Centre.
Continuing the tree-planting mission in the Kulai District, a total of 9,800 plants were distributed to 29 schools across Kulai, as well as the Kulai District Education Office. Beyond greening school environments, the initiative aims to bring environmental action closer to students and educators, encouraging them to play an active role in caring for the environment.
Students and teachers also came together at the 1MRFF site in Basir Ismail Estate to plant 20 trees, putting into practice the environmental values and shared responsibility championed through the programme.
Beyond tree planting, participants took part in interactive workshops and knowledge-sharing sessions on Sustainability & Climate Change, Waste-to-Wealth, Religion and the Environment, and Biodiversity. The sessions provided participants with practical knowledge and a broader understanding of how everyday actions can contribute to environmental sustainability.
Through Growing Together: Trees for Schools, the 1MRFF mission goes beyond planting trees. It is about cultivating environmental awareness among the next generation and empowering schools to become part of a collective effort towards a more sustainable future.
Together, we are planting roots today for a greener tomorrow.
