Iskandar Malaysia City Nature Challenge

Iskandar Malaysia City Nature Challenge City Nature Challenge is happening on 26 - 29 April this year! What is the City Nature Challenge? Any WILD animal, plant or fungus is game. How to Participate?

It’s a friendly competition between cities around the world to see who can make the most observations of nature, who can find the most species, and who can engage the most people. A friendly competition first invented by citizen science staff at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County and California Academy of Sciences in 2016, the City Nature Challenge is an international effort for peop

le to find and document plants and wildlife in cities across the globe. Over 200 cities around the world will be calling their communities to bioblitz their biodiversity. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, modifications were made to last year's City Nature Challenge where it was pivoted to be a collaboration instead of competition as individual safety and public health are our utmost priority. Why participate in the City Nature Challenge? There is nature all around us, even in our cities! Knowing what kind of flora and fauna and where they are in our city helps us study and protect them, but the ONLY way to do that is by ALL OF US – scientists, park managers, and the community (park visitors, schools, hikers, nature enthusiasts etc.) – working together to find and document the nature in our area. By participating in the City Nature Challenge, not only do you learn more about your local nature, but you can also make your city a better place – for you and other species! We will be using iNaturalist as a platform to record observations under this project. You can access iNaturalist using the mobile app or website. Using Mobile App: Simply download the app on either Google Play or App Store and sign up to iNaturalist. Using website: Go to https://www.inaturalist.org/ and sign up. Once signed up, please join the project titled “Nature City Challenge 2022: Iskandar Malaysia” that we’ve created in iNaturalist. You will be notified whenever new items are added to the project page. The most important thing is to get practicing for the big event on 29 April - 2 May 2022. If you are not sure how, you can contact us and we will definitely help you along the way.
