Nurses are a vital component of the team at PPCS, visiting patients at home to provide palliative care. They help to relieve pain while offering comfort and dignity to those living with serious illnesses, advocating for each patient's best interests. Their assistance extends to family members and caregivers, providing practical guidance and emotional support by walking alongside them during their most difficult moments.

Today, we highlight the many contributions of our nurses to the work of palliative care. Thank you for your sustained commitment and compassionate service, which leave a lasting impact on the lives of patients and their loved ones.

Happy International Nurses Day! ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ’š

Last Wednesday, PPCS had the pleasure of hosting an educational talk titled "Comfort First - Right Approach and Nutrition in Palliative Care". In addition to our volunteers and staff, over 40 participants attended, consisting of patients' family members and friends, professional caregivers from nursing homes or care centres, and members of the public.

The first session was led by Mr Calvin Chong (Certified Dementia Care Skills Educator), who explained the differences in sensory processing in older adults and introduced the hand-under-hand technique for a positive approach through experiential activities. This was followed by a session with Ms Yeoh Chai Yen (Registered Dietitian) which highlighted safety and ease of access for foods that support self-feeding. She also provided practical tips on preparing simple, nutrient-dense meals from a dietary perspective.

We thank both speakers for sharing their expertise with lively interaction throughout the talk and hope that all who joined have gained more knowledge and empathy in order to better support the individuals they are caring for.

The PPCS medical team constantly puts in effort to equip themselves with knowledge & skills in order to improve the services we offer. Recently, they participated in a physiotherapy training session conducted by the experienced staff of Physiofit Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation Centre who demonstrated techniques and also answered questions regarding the use of physiotherapy to help patients under our care.

In the context of palliative care, physiotherapy treatment plays its part in optimising a person's functioning ability, enabling him/her to regain or maintain physical independence. By doing so, personal autonomy is preserved which contributes to quality of life.

Ever wondered if PPCS services are available in your location? Here's a map that shows our currently covered areas ๐Ÿ“

From Ipoh, the PPCS medical team travels as far as Sungai Siput in the north and also down south to Tapah. However, patients in other districts remain beyond our reach due to constraints of distance and time ๐Ÿ›ฃโฑ

We've come a long way since the beginning, but there is still much further to go. Our commitment to make palliative care accessible throughout Perak continues, because every person deserves peace and dignity ๐Ÿ•Š

This map shows current locations covered by the PPCS Home Care Program. Kindly note that outstation services are subject to the availability of nurses.

We may be almost halfway through January, but it's not too late to look back on the previous year. Heartfelt gratitude to all who have shared their resources, time, and effort in support of PPCS's mission.

As we move forward in 2026, it is our continued hope that each person who needs palliative care will receive it and continue to live meaningfully, despite challenging health conditions.

In mid-December, three members of staff from PPCS attended the Grief and Bereavement Care Workshop organised by Hospis Malaysia and facilitated by Professor Amy Y.M. Chow, Head of the Department of Social Work & Social Administration at The University of Hong Kong.

Part of our mission is to support grieving families appropriately, offering bereavement support to those who need it. Sometimes, just listening and being present is the most powerful care we can give.

Let's be real - caregiving can be overwhelming, especially when someone living with illness requires round-the-clock assistance. Most of the time, the caregiving role is taken up by family members who learn to look after their loved ones.

Palliative care includes providing practical and emotional support for family members & caregivers, offering guidance with a listening ear. It is important for caregivers to look after their own wellbeing and reach out for help (if needed) to cope with stress and reduce the risk of burnout. Caregivers need care too.
