On Tuesday (18th Aug), four members of our medical team participated in the 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 - 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐤𝐚𝐭 𝐍𝐞𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐢 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐤.

The Medical Development Division, Ministry of Health Malaysia has been working to 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 (𝐀𝐂𝐏), which is essentially "a proactive discussion among loved ones, expressing one’s wishes as to the extent of medical care the person wishes to receive or decline in the future, should his/her health condition deteriorate for the worse and they can no longer make decisions for themselves anymore."

Two weeks ago, an induction session was conducted for new volunteers, led by Ms Doreen (Volunteer Coordinator) and Mdm Guddi (Community Awareness, Relations, and Education Chairperson). The attendees were given essential information about palliative care and briefed on their role as volunteers.

As a vital part of our team, volunteers provide immensely helpful support in administration and advocacy work, publicity efforts, fundraising activities, and the Sunshine Hour Program.

PPCS appreciates every volunteer for selflessly lending their time, experience, and energy to promote palliative care in the community.

Last Friday, PPCS received a visit from the 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐂𝐥𝐮𝐛 of Sunway College Ipoh (SCI). Represented by two students and two lecturers, they generously contributed food items and other daily essentials for distribution to patients in need. The group was also briefed about PPCS services and brought up some ideas for future collaboration💡

On the 9th of July, palliative care nurse Dhivyaa and volunteer Dr Akbar attended the Cancer Pain Management Workshop 2026, held at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun Ipoh, Perak. This one-day course included lectures, case discussion, and a forum session.

PPCS medical director, Dato Dr Ziaudin Ahamed was invited to be one of the forum panellists, addressing participants' questions on the topic of "Cancer Pain Management Across The Continuum of Care: Challenges and Strategies".

Many thanks to the Palliative Care Unit of HRPB Ipoh for this chance to gain insights from palliative care specialists, medical officers, and allied health professionals on the multi-dimensional aspects of cancer pain management.
