Malaysia Blue Sky Rescue Deploys to Aceh Twice, Launching Cross-Border Medical and Search Operations
Malaysia Blue Sky Rescue was the first foreign medical rescue team to arrive in Indonesia’s Aceh Province. After the disaster struck, the team swiftly set out for Aceh with the support of approximately 2,000 kilograms of medicines provided by Gomez Pharmacy, and with AirAsia offering free transportation for the relief supplies.
Upon their first arrival in Aceh, floodwaters in the affected areas had not yet fully receded. Many roads were cut off, and numerous homes were severely damaged, making travel to the hardest-hit areas take several hours by vehicle. Victims not only faced disruptions to water, electricity, and communications but also suffered from illness due to a severe shortage of medical resources.
Despite transportation difficulties, the Malaysia Blue Sky Rescue medical team pressed deep into the disaster zones to provide basic medical services and medications, enabling many patients to receive timely treatment and easing post-disaster medical pressure.
Several days later, Malaysia Blue Sky Rescue returned to Aceh for a second mission. This time, with another approximately 3,000 kilograms of medicines, relief supplies, and daily necessities provided again by Gomez Pharmacy—and once more transported free of charge by AirAsia—the scope of the relief operation was further expanded. During this second deployment, Malaysia Blue Sky Rescue met up with China Blue Sky Rescue in Aceh, and the two teams carried out a clearly coordinated joint operation.
The Malaysia Blue Sky Rescue medical team continued heading into severely affected areas to provide medical assistance to disaster victims, while China Blue Sky Rescue moved to riverbank areas, using professional sonar equipment to conduct waterway scans to help search for possible missing persons. Although the search ultimately yielded no findings, team members felt a sense of relief—this also meant that the victims had not suffered the devastating loss of additional loved ones.
In the later stage of the operation, Malaysia Blue Sky Rescue and China Blue Sky Rescue regrouped and jointly traveled to remote, heavily affected regions. The medical team continued to treat patients and dispense medication, while China Blue Sky Rescue assisted the local government in distributing relief supplies, delivering them one by one to villages and households in need.
Across both rescue missions—whether in medical aid, material support, or technical search efforts—Malaysia Blue Sky Rescue and China Blue Sky Rescue consistently upheld humanitarian principles, crossing national boundaries and working in close coordination while quietly dedicating themselves to the disaster zone. For the victims, this was not merely a rescue operation, but a tangible show of support and care from the international community during a time of great hardship.
