We celebrated the victory day at the Esplanade cenotaph yesterday. It was great because local Russians staying in Penang came and paid tribute together with PTGA members.

An unusual CTRE to learn about the World War II, joined by several organisations, the Russian families, professors and friends who are into in the War history. Many thanks for the sharing by Assoc Prof. Elena Ishimskaya from AF Mozhaysky Military Space Academy of St. Petersburg, Prof. Tan Chee Seng from History Section USM and Clement Liang from Penang Heritage Trust & PTGA. The following 2 sessions in the late afternoon further enriched the war knowledge through sharing of family stories and Russian tea and desserts. Special thanks to and Katerina who keeps the memory of war alive.

In just a few short years, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing has reshaped how tourism contributes to Malaysia’s economy. What was once viewed as a supporting sector has evolved into one of the country’s most powerful economic drivers.

From 2023 to 2025, tourism’s contribution to national GDP reached nearly RM900 billion—an achievement that reflects both scale and consistency:

● 2023: RM275.8 billion
● 2024: RM291.9 billion
● 2025: RM332.2 billion

These figures point to steady growth and increasing reliance on tourism as a key pillar of economic activity.
Real Impact on the Ground

Beyond GDP, tourism receipts—actual spending by visitors—tell a clearer story of impact:
> Total (3 years): RM359.1 billion
● 2023: RM106.8 billion
● 2024: RM107 billion
● 2025: RM145.3 billion

This translates into income for everyday Malaysians—drivers, small business owners, hotel workers, and vendors.

𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲

Malaysia’s tourism profile has also strengthened significantly:
● Tourist arrivals climbed from 29 million (2023) to 42.2 million (2025)
● Over 48 new international air routes introduced
● Kuala Lumpur International Airport ranked as a top global connectivity hub
● Kuala Lumpur named among top trending global destinations
● George Town recognised for its street food scene
● Ipoh listed among Asia’s must-visit cities

Malaysia also regained the top position in the Global Muslim Travel Index, reinforcing its appeal to diverse travel markets.

𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗦𝘁𝘆𝗹𝗲

A defining aspect of Tiong’s leadership is his pragmatic and inclusive approach. He has consistently emphasised that Malaysia’s strength lies in its multicultural identity—balancing global appeal with local sensitivities.

This was evident in his support for events like the Rain Rave Water Music Festival in Bukit Bintang, which drew large crowds while operating within local guidelines. His stance highlighted a broader principle: economic growth and cultural diversity can coexist without conflict.
