In Loving Memory of PAG Paul Selvaratnam
We apologise for the late posting as we take a moment to reflect and honour a life well lived.
The Rotary Club of Butterworth recently gathered in solemn remembrance to honour the life and legacy of our dear friend and fellow Rotarian, Past Assistant Governor Paul Selvaratnam, who passed away on 6 September 2025.
Paul joined our club in 2002, introduced by the late PAG Seevaratnam, and from that moment onwards became an integral part of our Rotary family. Over the years, he served the club with great dedication, including as President of the Rotary Club of Butterworth (RY 2006/2007) and later as Assistant Governor (RY 2013/2014). His commitment to Rotary ideals was unwavering, and he was always ready to serve wherever needed.
Paul played an important role in strengthening Rotary’s impact and fellowship. He was instrumental in helping charter Rotary Club of Bandar Sungai Petani and actively supported the development of our strong friendship with our sister club, Rotary Club of Tongkah Phuket, Thailand. His dedication, humility, and exemplary attendance — despite travelling regularly from Sungai Petani — reflected his true spirit of service above self.
Beyond Rotary, Paul was a devoted family man. He leaves behind his beloved wife Dr. June, a gynaecologist at Hospital Pantai, and their daughter Abigail, who is currently working as a chef in Kuala Lumpur.
Those who knew Paul will fondly remember his warm humour, eloquent speeches, especially in Tamil, his love for gardening, music, good food, and his impeccable sense of style. He was also a respected church elder at the Full Gospel Assembly Church, where he served faithfully for many years.
Paul’s presence at our meetings, his thoughtful contributions, and his friendship will be deeply missed by all of us.
To Dr. June and Abigail, the Rotary Club of Butterworth extends our deepest condolences. Please know that you will always remain part of our Rotary family.
May his soul rest in eternal peace.
Service Above Self.
