The Rotary Malcolm Williams English Language Proficiency Contest was started in 1996 (30 years ago) and held almost annually thereafter, to provide incentives and avenues to improve the quality and proficiency in English among secondary school students in Bintulu. This is the 26th annual competition of the event. Students were tested on their essay writing skills, poetry reciting and public speaking (impromptu speech). This year saw the participation of 6 secondary schools in Bintulu with a total of 33 registered participants.
English is undeniably the most important language. Mastery of English grammar, vocabulary and proficiency are vital to student's development and future outlook. English communication skills help young people connect across culture, pursue higher education and career, and lead community projects that make a real difference. The competition aims to encourage clear thinking, respectful dialogue and creative expression among the next generation of leaders.
The Rotary Club of Bintulu thanked YB Johnny Pang Leong Ming, ADUN 68 Tanjung Batu for his presence to officiate the closing ceremony and gave away the prizes ( cash award & trophy) to the winners.
