Bangsar Nursery open Saturday morning to the public. Tuesday morning by appointment only. Free Tree Society Kuala Lumpur is based on very simple principles - we take seeds, we sprout them, we look after the seedlings, then we give away healthy little plants to the public for free on environmental holidays! Through this act of giving away plants for free we hope to encourage a whole host of other g

reen goals and objectives, such as to:
- Increase and improve the suburban and city greenscape;
- Educate people on the correct way to plant and care for trees;
- Increase peoples' awareness of environmental holidays;
- Encourage a love of local plants; and
- Establish a dedicated plant society where like-minded city greenies can come together for the love of plants and grow and nurture seedlings in a sustainable and environmentally conscious manner. Volunteers are welcome to come to our nursery to help out. We have volunteer sessions on Tuesdays (9:30 - 11:30am) and Saturdays (9am - 12pm). Volunteers do a variety of tasks from propagating new plants to gardening and landscaping. All tools are provided - you may like to wear mosquito repellant and sunscreen - also, bring a hat and wear sensible outdoor shoes. Big groups of over 6 pax should please contact us is advance and book a day to visit. Parents are responsible for their children (please note there are sharp tools, fertilizers, a pond and open drains on site). Volunteers are the backbone behind Free Tree Society - the more we plant the more we can giveaway, so if you'd like more giveaways, do come and help us out one day! No experience necessary.

A little planting goes a long way! 🌱

Last year, our FTS On-The-Go team visited Tadika Raihan for a hands-on planting session with the students. Returning this week to see those very same plants flourishing was incredible!

When children learn to care for green spaces early on, they don’t just grow plants—they build a lasting bond with the environment. These hands-on moments spark curiosity, teach responsibility, and help the next generation see themselves as true stewards of the natural world. 🌿

Starting Merdeka month on a high note! 🌿

We loved hosting our wonderful volunteers from Vantris Energy, Agoda, Docto Aircond, and Peninsular College for an impactful learning session on our Malaysian native plants and sustainability. Thank you all for bringing such great energy!

Our Nature Education Program is run in partnership with Taman Tugu and wonderfully sponsored by CIMB Islamic Bank. Corporations and students are welcome to book sessions on Wed and Fri mornings. We run public sessions on Sat afternoons.

KPARC at the CGM Hornbill Awards 2026 🏆

Earlier this week, Free Tree Society participated in the Hornbill Awards 2026 at Sasana Kijang, Bank Negara Malaysia, where our KPARC (Korbu Perak Arboretum & Rainforest Centre) project was shortlisted as one of five finalists under the theme Nature-Based Solutions for a Resilient Malaysia.

Over two days, we showcased KPARC through our exhibition booth and had the opportunity to pitch our work on stage alongside an inspiring group cohort and the winning initiative, Langur Project Penang:

- Rimau
- Langur Project Penang - LPP
- Wetlands International
- South East Asia Rainforest Research Partnership

Being recognised on a national stage alongside these organisations is a proud moment for us. It reflects the collective efforts of the Temiar community of Jalong Tinggi, our partners, supporters, and volunteers who continue to restore and protect the forests of Hutan Simpan Korbu.

More importantly, it gave us the opportunity to share how community-led conservation can create lasting impact, from restoring degraded forest areas and protecting threatened tree species to supporting environmental education, native plant propagation, and local stewardship of the forest. Special shout out to Rymba for joining us at our booth to share the important forest monitoring and carbon assessment work being done in KPARC using drone based AI-driven technology.

As promised, our Wild, Weird and Wonderful series is back with a special wild fruit mukbang live session!

Our friend Dr Chan Zi Yang has just sent us some interesting specimens to check out… and sample!

We’re going to try the Articarpus rigidus that looks like durian but tastes like cempedak. We’ll learn about the nutty science of the Berangan tree Castanopsis. Find out why these two are not even technically “a fruit”!

Last Friday, we welcomed the CIMB team to Taman Tugu for a day of learning, exploration, and hands-on conservation.

As a sponsor of Free Tree Society’s environmental education programmes, it was especially meaningful to have the team turun padang and experience firsthand the work they help make possible.

From getting their hands dirty planting native species, to learning about urban biodiversity, to exploring the forest on guided jungle walks, the 100 pax team fully immersed themselves in the full Taman Tugu experience.

These moments matter. They turn conservation from something we talk about into something we experience, understand, and become part of.
