YTL Foundation’s vision is to empower the next generation through education, technology, service and compassion.

The YTL Foundation
The YTL Foundation was established in 1997 with the principle aim of providing aid to deserving individuals who would otherwise be denied such opportunities. Throughout the years, the YTL Foundation has awarded scholarships and book prizes that have enabled many students to achieve their dreams and realise their potential. The Foundation has since broadened its reach to include the sponsorship of initiatives such as workshops, talks and conferences that seek to enrich and inspire all those involved in the field of education whether in school, at home, in administration or in policy making to transform education using technology and the internet. It is also developing programmes aimed at providing better access to education for all. Through its various efforts, the YTL Foundation aims to empower individuals to achieve their full potential and assume leadership positions to contribute towards the nation’s development. What happens when the same education system is experienced, understood, and talked about in very different ways?

Policies may have one intention. Teachers may experience something else in the classroom and the public may come away with a completely different understanding.

At the heart of these various realities is often something we don't pay enough attention to: how we communicate and make sense of education.

For our upcoming Thought Leadership Series, Prof Dr Stefanie Pillai, Professor at the Faculty of Language & Linguistics at University of Malaya, and Dr Zuridah Hanim, an MTP 2023 Top 10 Finalist and an MTP 2026 Fellow, joins us for Whose Story Gets Told?, a conversation about the narratives, perspectives and realities that shape how Malaysian education is understood.

This panel discussion will be moderated by Kelly Lim, Director of Operations & Educational Technology of PEMIMPIN, bringing together the perspectives in a conversation about how education is communicated, interpreted and understood.

We are thrilled to introduce our 4th cohort of educators as they embark on their PGCEi (Malaysia) journey with us.

Over the next 11 months, these 31 dedicated educators will challenge themselves to transform their classrooms and create deeply inclusive learning experiences for their students.

Working alongside lecturers, they will co-create a learning journey grounded in the real-world realities of their students many of whom come from Malaysia’s most underserved communities. This course is delivered under the Teachers for Educational Equity programme co-developed by YTL Foundation and the University of Birmingham.

Today, as Malaysia marks our 69th Hari Merdeka, our hearts swell with pride witnessing the spirit of unity and resilience come alive at Dataran Merdeka.

A massive shoutout goes to four of our exceptional YTL Foundation scholars—Chung Jun, Mohd Syawal, Nur Afiq, and Roy Lim—who proudly took part in today’s National Day Parade march-past!

Over the past month, they poured their dedication, discipline, and countless hours of practice into preparing for this moment. Seeing them carry the spirit of excellence from our scholarship community onto the national stage is deeply inspiring. Thank you for representing the future of our nation with such distinction.

On behalf of everyone at YTL Foundation, we wish all Malaysians a Happy 69th Hari Merdeka! Let’s continue to march forward together, united in hope, hard work, and love for our country.

We officially welcomed our 2026 Scholar Cohort, and the energy in the room was a powerful reminder of why we do what we do.

Beyond the official signing ceremony and certificate presentations, the real magic happened in the quiet moments: watching new scholars break the ice, share their aspirations, and immediately click with one another.

Hearing heart-felt speech from Dato’ Kathleen Chew at the start of the day set a tone of intention and reflection, while Dato’ Yeoh Soo Min closed the event with a message that left everyone inspired for what’s to come.

Having our scholar alumni and current interning scholars back in the room made the day complete—a living bridge showing our new cohort just how far this path can take them.

For Athikeshani, KelasKita was never only about teaching Mathematics.

Week after week, the classroom became a place where students brought more than just their revision books. Alongside equations came conversations about careers, uncertainty, and the quiet questions they did not always know who to ask.

One student spoke about becoming a lawyer. Another wondered if she should continue school at all despite dreaming of becoming a chef. Those conversations stayed with her because they were a reminder that teaching is rarely confined to a syllabus.

As someone who once relied on teachers who believed in her long before she believed in herself, Athikeshani understands how much a few encouraging words can matter. Through KelasKita, she simply hoped to be another adult willing to listen, guide, and remind her students that there is more than one path forward.

Looking back, she may have taught Mathematics, but the moments she remembers most happened in between the lessons.

Two weeks ago, we officially launched the ilmu Fellowship - a national leadership initiative designed for those ready to lead through complexity and work across institutional lines.
