The YTL Foundation was established in 1997 with the principle aim of providing aid to deserving individuals who would otherwise be denied such opportunities. Throughout the years, the YTL Foundation has awarded scholarships and book prizes that have enabled many students to achieve their dreams and realise their potential. The Foundation has since broadened its reach to include

the sponsorship of initiatives such as workshops, talks and conferences that seek to enrich and inspire all those involved in the field of education whether in school, at home, in administration or in policy making to transform education using technology and the internet. It is also developing programmes aimed at providing better access to education for all. Through its various efforts, the YTL Foundation aims to empower individuals to achieve their full potential and assume leadership positions to contribute towards the nation’s development. Two weeks ago, we officially launched the ilmu Fellowship - a national leadership initiative designed for those ready to lead through complexity and work across institutional lines.

From watching trains roll past her backyard in Paloh, Kluang to navigating her first year at Universiti Malaya — Chung Jun’s journey has always been about connection. 🚂✨

Growing up right next to the YTL railway track gave Jun an early appreciation for how big systems work and how they bring people together.

Today, as a Business Administration student at University Malaya, her childhood curiosity has evolved into a passion for leadership and teamwork —whether she’s taking the lead on projects like Asian Try Zero-G or balancing her studies.

When life presented tough financial challenges after the loss of her mother, Jun kept her head up, working part-time to support her father while staying focused on her dreams.

Securing the YTL Foundation Scholarship was a true full-circle moment. It provided the support she needed to focus on her growth, learn alongside ambitious peers, and keep pushing forward.

For Jun, success is all about building strong relationships and staying confident through every season. Here's to giving every scholar the runway to chase their biggest ambitions! 🚀

Learning a new language takes real courage! 🌟

For the past two weeks at RCLC, our YTL Foundation scholars Chung Jun, Kai Ken and Hong Ming have been helping students feel brave enough to speak and interact in English. 🗣️✨

By using picture storytelling, spelling bees, and games like Simon Says, they showed the students that making mistakes is a normal part of learning.

Before long, fear turned into fun as the classroom full of students eagerly raising their hands and speaking in English with newfound confidence. 💬✏️

We recently wrapped up our second Social Emotional Learning (SEL) session at the Children's Future Education Centre (CFEC), where 20 of our students partnered with an exceptional team of 11 student volunteers from the International Medical University (IMU).

Moving away from standard classroom lessons, the session relied on experiential games and collaborative challenges. Through targeted activities like 'Guess the Shape' and team drawing, our students actively practised precision communication, patience, and collective ex*****on to complete their tasks.

The day capped off with an inspiring 'Dream Sharing' session. By introducing our students to educational pathways in healthcare, IMU's future medical professionals helped expand their horizons, encouraging them to connect these vital soft skills with their own long-term career aspirations. 🚀

A massive thank you to the IMU team for bringing so much energy, heart, and inspiration to our students!

Can coding make financial literacy fun? Absolutely. 💻💰

Last Thursday, our YTL scholars taught an interactive programming and financial literacy session students at 54C, our YTL Learning Center.

Rather than just talking about budgeting, we decided to let the students build their own financial roadmap. Using Scratch, they stepped into the roles of game developers to create "Money Hero"—a game where players collect coins and must strategically decide how to allocate them toward saving, spending, needs, and wants.

Equipping the next generation with both digital literacy and practical life skills is at the heart of what we do. 🌟

YTL Sustainability Department partnered with student volunteers from Taylor's University to conduct an Eco Arts Outreach Programme for refugee students.

From secondary students exploring the delicate balance of biodiversity to primary students diving into climate change mitigation, these sessions turned complex science concepts into fun, tangible experiences.

Through these activities, students learned how the increase in greenhouse gases in the atmosphere resulting in global warming.

What does a meaningful retirement look like?

For Lim Jin Aun, it means stepping back into the classroom as a mentor through YTL Foundation’s KelasKita and Teach For Malaysia programme.

Now in his second cycle with the exact same group of students, Jin Aun has seen first-hand how consistency builds confidence. By showing up regularly, he helps shift the students' mindset from 'I can't' to 'I can try', proving that patience and encouragement are true catalysts for growth. But the learning goes both ways.

Engaging with the students, community leaders, and ground officers has deeply shaped his own perspective, reinforcing the core belief that everyone thrives when given the right support.

Of course, the journey isn't without hurdles!

Returning to a modern school syllabus after years away can be daunting for our volunteers, but utilising the right tools bridged that gap. The Frog VLE platform gave Jin Aun and his fellow tutors the structure and guidance they needed to deliver their lessons effectively and confidently.

Ultimately, this initiative thrives because of the 'right heart'. When volunteers approach a community with empathy and humility, academic tutoring stops being transactional. It becomes a transformative space where children feel seen, valued, and capable.

We had an amazing time on June 3rd teaming up with UTAR Sungai Long for The UniFun Day! 🎓✨

We brought 100 incredible refugee youths (ages 12-17) and their teachers from 5 different schools to get a real taste of university life. For many of these bright young students, a university campus feels like a whole different world. We wanted to spark a genuine love for STEM and show them that higher education is something they can aim for.

For many of these students, a university campus is an unfamiliar world. Our goal was to bridge that gap—motivating these bright young minds to pursue their educational aspirations and cultivating a genuine interest in STEM.

A massive THANK YOU to the 40 awesome staff and student volunteers from UTAR’s Department of Science & Engineering (Foundation Studies) for making this possible. Together, we guided the students through an unforgettable day of hands-on learning:

🧭 Physics: Exploring magnetic fields and bar compasses.
🧬 Biology: Diving into the complex structures of the human body.
🧪 Chemistry: Testing out acids, bases, and everything in between.
💻 Mathematics: Tackling the "Algorithm Race," to learn the basics of computer science!

Beyond the labs, the students were treated to a campus tour and a powerful motivational session, "Your Future Starts Today," led by Ms. Melissa Stephanie Netto (Director, Centre for Foundation Studies) alongside three inspiring UTAR students who shared their own journeys of overcoming adversity.

Seeing these students from different schools making friends, working together, and actually picturing themselves at university... that’s exactly why we do what we do. Education is the ultimate equalizer, and we’re so proud to help these youths take one step closer to their dreams. 💙
