Today’s post is a fundraising post.
Although the purpose is indeed to raise funds, I still hope everyone can read this story to the end.
Meimei is just an ordinary yellow stray dog.
She has been wandering for about 8–9 years. She hides from strangers, barks when threatened, is nosy, loves to roam around, but is actually very timid.
She was born as a stray.
For almost 10 years of her life, she has never had a home, because her mother was also an abandoned stray.
Perhaps, in the world of dogs, this yellow girl was considered “pretty,” which always attracted many unwanted pursuers. It took the volunteers two whole years just to trap her. During that time, she gave birth once. When she was finally caught for spaying, she was found to have TVT. She was fostered during treatment and released back to the street once she recovered.
Thinking back, that was around 2017 or 2018.
Both mother and daughter were fierce, very wary of humans, and extremely hard to catch. They completed their spay surgeries and TVT chemotherapy, then were both released back to the streets.
There was always an old male yellow dog guarding them. The volunteer only managed to touch him once. Back then, with very limited rescue resources, the volunteer had to capture dogs alone. When the old dog was touched that one time, he cried terribly, as if he thought he was going to be beaten. After that, he would walk close, but could never be caught again.
Eventually, he fell critically ill. Another rescue group managed to take him in, but he still didn’t survive.
Without the old yellow dog, the mother and daughter lost their guardian. But soon after, during the MCO period, someone dumped an already-neutered long-haired yellow poodle in that area.
The long-haired boy was already a senior dog with weak legs, so he followed the mother and daughter everywhere — he had no one else.
The mother and daughter resisted him for two or three days, then accepted him into their little family.
The three of them lived around a commercial area in Thivyjaya.
Although the traffic there was reckless, the shop owners and nearby people always treated them kindly. At the very least, they were fed.
But their days as a trio didn’t even last two years.
The mother dog was hit by a car, suffering a comminuted fracture in her thigh.
It took three days before a volunteer found her and sent her for treatment.
Because her recovery would be very long, and as a senior dog she would no longer regain full mobility, the volunteer had no choice but to take her in permanently.
The following year, the long-haired yellow dog was also hit by a car and severely injured.
By the time the feeder found him, no one knew how long he had been suffering. He passed away two days after being sent to the vet.
The volunteer buried him in their garden, imagining him finally reunited with the mother dog.
And then, less than two years later, the daughter, Meimei was hit as well.
Another comminuted fracture in her thigh.
Her front leg was dislocated.
Her whole body was injured, and she even fell into a drain.
It was raining heavily and very windy.
The feeder stood under the rain with an umbrella begging for help.
Thankfully, Liza braved the storm, drenched from head to toe, and rushed Meimei to the vet immediately.
Meimei is already an old yellow girl.
Maybe age has made her too fragile to survive the streets anymore.
Or maybe… the streets of this world were never meant to hold even one stray dog, nor accept the little love that rescuers try to give them.
We have always advocated community cooperation:
Trap, neuter, release, and have feeders continue caring for the dogs on-site.
But these repeated hit-and-run incidents are suffocating.
We cannot possibly take in every stray.
That’s why we put so much effort into spaying and releasing, hoping only that society can allow them a small space to exist.
That’s the story.
I don’t know how much resonance it will bring, but we just want to say, we are really sad, and really helpless.
Now, back to the fundraising purpose.
For comminuted fracture, doctor estimated RM 4090 for treatment.
When the mother dog was injured years ago (2023) with the same fracture, the volunteer paid over RM3000 for her medical bills.
This time, they simply cannot afford it anymore. They really need your help.
