本院创办人兼院长广品大和尚卫塞节开示:
Venerables, Monastics, Temples & Buddhist Organizations, Buddhists, and Friends from All Walks of Life:
As we celebrate Vesak, on behalf of all my colleagues in the Singapore Buddhist Federation, I would like to extend my heartfelt wishes to everyone for a joyful Vesak. May you enjoy good health, peace of mind, and well-being.
The impact of AI (Artificial Intelligence) on humanity will continue to grow, and it will become an inseparable part of our daily lives. How should Buddhists view AI?
From the perspective of dependent origination and conditions, AI should be regarded as a condition (yuan), while human beings are the primary cause (yin). AI is meant to be a tool that assists humanity in handling matters; human beings are its masters, not the other way around. We must not confuse what is primary with what is secondary. Otherwise, AI could ultimately become a source of harm that leads to humanity’s downfall.
While AI surpasses humans in collecting, processing, and analysing information, it can never replace the human capacity to discern right from wrong, good from bad, and wholesome from unwholesome. Therefore, we should strengthen our study of the Buddha’s teachings and cultivate wisdom, so that we can make sound decisions and act in ways that truly benefit humanity when facing the many challenges and situations of life.
Furthermore, even if AI helps us manage many aspects of our daily matters, people must still interact with one another and live together in society. This raises the question of how each of us can maintain harmonious and positive relationships with others. To this end, cultivating good affinities and wholesome connections is an essential path.
The foremost way to cultivate such wholesome relationships is through learning and practicing the wisdom of the Dharma. The wisdom of the Buddha’s teachings enables us to act altruistically and accumulate blessings and merits. In this way, our families can be harmonious, society can be peaceful, nations can be prosperous, and the world can enjoy lasting harmony.
During this Vesak season, the Singapore Buddhist Federation calls upon Buddhists around the world to unite in prayer for world peace, freedom from disasters and suffering, the cessation of all conflicts and warfare, and the well-being of all sentient beings.
Greeting from:
Seck Kwang Phing(Ven)
President, Singapore Buddhist Federation
