La idea de Fane Kantsini nació de un joven estudiante. Al salir de su pueblo natal y llegar a la capital Oaxaca, se dio cuenta que la cultura chontal no es tomada en cuenta, y que no tenia representación en ningún espacio cultural, a pesar de sus ricas tradiciones y artesanía.
Fane Kantsini “Polinizando Vidas” es nuestra organización integrada por jóvenes originarios que hayan salido ya de la comunidad con un conocimiento del mundo moderno y nuestra única región.
El objetivo principal es promover conciencia de la identidad chontal por realizar diversas actividades en cultura, lengua, vestimenta, deporte y cuidado de medio ambiente. Es decir, queremos “polinizar vidas.”
Hemos tenido mucho éxito. Es un grupo de jóvenes que realmente va teniendo resultados. Hay 30 chontales jóvenes quien participan en nuestro taller de canto donde aprenden a cantar en chontal. Además, hemos escrito el himno nacional en chontal y actualmente se enseña a las escuelas cercanas a cantarlo.
Tenemos mucho orgullo de la creación en 2019 de la primera biblioteca de la region chontal, donde tenemos 1800 libros disponible a ambos niños y adultos. Aprovechamos de esto espacio para ofrecer talleres de manualidades y otros eventos a promover la cultura chontal y el alfabetismo de español y chontal.
Nos relacionamos a menudo con los abuelos y abuelas. Sus testimonios forman la historia chontal. Son los poseedores de la conocimiento de cualquier parte de nuestra cultura: la ropa, la comida, la música, y mucho mas. Es muy importante construir un puente entre los abuelitos y los jóvenes.
Nuestras metas incluyen seguir aprender de los abuelos. La música chontal es especialmente en peligro de extinción y queremos adquirir instrumentos para que los niños puedan adquirir la capacidad tocarlos. También, con su éxito inicial, queremos aumentar la biblioteca con mas libros y mueble.
No nos relacionamos con partido político. La ayuda que hacemos es por donaciones y la voluntariado generoso. Por ejemplo, hay cuatro maestros del pueblo, que aceptaron interactúar voluntariamente con los niños cada sábado.
La gente puede ayudar donando en especie ya que se requiere más recibirlos en especie pero para los que están lejos, pueden enviarlo a la capital. Y así poder llevar la ayuda. Puede ayudar compartiendo y participando en cada actividad, como en las colecta de juguetes para niños que reglamenten no tienen juguetes, colecta de ropa usada o nueva. ¿Que es “Fane Kantsini”?
Fane Kantsini en chontal significa “Tres Colibris.” Pues, era el nombre de un rey chontal. Optamos por esto nombre porque es una historia que nos cuentan nuestros abuelos. Además que es una de las aves más importantes en nuestro campo, poliniza flores, y árboles frutales. Siendo el polinizador del maguey, ya que de ahí se produce mezcal, una de las bebidas prehispánicas. Polinizando vidas: pues la accion que hace el colibri, queremos producir, reinventar y enaltecer nuestras tradiciones, quienes somos.

The idea of Fane Kantsini came from a young student. Leaving his birth village to study in the regional capital, Oaxaca City, he realized that little was known about his people, the indigenous Chontal of Mexico. Despite their rich traditions and craftsmanship, the Chontal were totally lacking representation.
Fane Kantsini “Pollinating Lives” is our integrated organization of local youth who have already lived outside the Chontal community and therefore have a knowledge of the modern world and also of their own unique region.
Our primary objective is to promote awareness of the Chontal identity by hosting a variety of activities related to culture, language, clothes, sports and protecting the natural environment. In other words, we “pollinate lives.”
We have enjoyed plenty of success. Our young people have shown particularly outstanding results. About 30 youth take part in our singing class, where they learn to sing in Chontal. They have also translated the national anthem into Chontal and it is now being taught in local schools!
We are particularly proud of the 2019 opening of the first library in all the Chontal lands. There are 1800 books of all types available for everyone to enjoy and learn. We take advantage of this new space to offer craft workshops and other events to promote our culture and literacy in both Spanish and Chontal.
We have spent many hours engaging with the elders of our community. Their stories make up our history. They are the keepers of all facets of our culture: clothing, food, music, and so much more. It is essential to build a knowledge bridge between the grandparents and the children.
We hope to continue all that we currently do, especially learning from our seniors while we still can. Chontal music is particularly endangered and we hope to acquire musical instruments so that the children have the ability to learn how to play them. In addition, we hope to build upon the initial success of our library, enhancing it with more books and furniture to create a very positive learning environment.
We are not connected with any political party, nor do we receive any financial grants. Our support fully comes from generous donations and kind volunteers. For example, we have four local teachers who volunteer their time each Saturday to interact with the local children.
People may contribute locally by making donations of books, furniture, and time. We are pleased to accept donations of toys and used clothes for the less fortunate in our communities. We also humbly accept funds which we can use to achieve our goals. Thank-you so much for your generosity.
What is Fane Kantsini?
Fane Kantsini means “Three Hummingbirds” in Chontal. It is the name of a Chontal King in the stories our grandparents tell us. Furthermore, the hummingbird is one of the most important birds in our fields, pollinating flowers and trees. It is the greatly appreciated pollinator of maguey, from which the pre-Columbian drink is made. Like the hummingbird, our role is to pollinate: to produce, to grow, to be proud of our culture and who we are.
