Update: Chiki is now home with me, tagging tail and smiles galore. She stays in her big crate to protect her from the other dogs when I’m not here. A second distemper tests says she doesn’t have the disease (as I suspected). Little girl doesn’t have a clue how this housebreaking thing works. We spent a half- hour outside; then came in and poo’d and peed. Mop is handy. No worries we’ve got time. She’ll be healthy and happy if it kills me. Jungle dogs deserve love, too. Photo dump tomorrow.

Chiki has distemper. It’s breaking me. Stage 1, so she has a chance. But with that horrible skin infection it will be difficult. Please send good thoughts to this little girl. I sure could use help for her hospitalization costs. @

A mamá dog, now called Ellie and not more than a year old herself, plus her sevennewborn pups was rescued in the deep jungle by good friends and neighbors Erika and Chito a few days ago.

Ellie and the pups are now safe with good food, clean water and shelter. Erika and I are looking after them until they’re old enough to be adopted. We’ll also be sure to sterilize and vaccinate them.

This is why the Casa Patas MX project to sterilize dogs and cats in the villages and surrounding jungle is so very important. Ellie and the pups would not have survived long in the jungle without food, water and shelter.

Jungle rescue of Ellie and the newborns

A mamá dog, now called Ellie and not more than a year old herself, plus her sevennewborn pups was rescued in the deep jungle by good friends and neighbors Erika and Chito a few days ago.

Ellie and the pups are now safe with good food, clean water and shelter. Erika and I are looking after them until they’re old enough to be adopted. We’ll also be sure to sterilize and vaccinate them.

This is why the Casa Patas MX project to sterilize dogs and cats in the villages and surrounding jungle is so very important. Ellie and the pups would not have survived long in the jungle without food, water and shelter.

Eighth sterilizacion campaign of 2025 is done, done, done at Casa Patas MX in Macario Gómez. Thirty-nine animals spayed and neutered, making a total so far of 168 from the little villages around here in the jungle.

I’ve got 25 more animals on the waiting list (including 10 who didn’t show up for one reason or another this past Sunday). I’m out of money for my project. Please help if you can.

I’m so proud that word of spreading, spreading, spreading in my little community and the local people are responding.

I’m worried about Chiki, the pup that lives by Cenote Zemway, between Tulum and Macario Gomez. Two weeks ago, her skin was healing and improving. Today (Thursday, 10 July), she seems worse. Off to the vet clinic we go tomorrow.
