Colombia Day 8: This was sadly our last day at the Cosdecol club. ⚽️

We had breakfast, heard some more amazing God stories that helped bring this facility to life, got a final tour where we saw the gym and one of 3 classrooms, went to the local shopping mall, wrote some affirmations to each other, and ended the day with a farewell dinner with Cosdecol staff. 🫶

It was lovely sharing encouragement with the Cosdecol staff and hearing them express their gratitude for our visit and the memories we created with them and the kids. We are even going home with our own Cosdecol jerseys! 🙏💙

We did our final team reflection, heard a devotional from a Cosdecol staff member, and went to sleep before an early morning wake-up call to head to the airport! 🤍

Colombia Day 7: This was our earliest morning, with breakfast at 6am! We had eggs, arepa (Colombian corn tortilla), pineapple, mango, and juice/coffee. 🍍☕️

We visited another neighborhood a little after 7am and scrimmaged with them for over an hour! Some of us also played other games on the side and even helped some girls with their school projects by answering questions in recorded interviews. 📹

We wrapped up our time with one of our participants sharing a devotional with the kids and then headed to the brownie factory! Cosdecol makes and sells brownies, which funds 40% of the soccer ministry costs. We took a tour of their factory, and they gave each of us a brownie. 😋

We headed back to the club for lunch & then had a bit of rest time until heading to our 2nd neighborhood of the day. We went and practiced about 10 minutes away from the club. One of our team members shared a devotional, and another directed the soccer warm-up. Then - we scrimmaged! We came back to the club and watched, supported, and played side games with the younger kids who were training there. ⚽️🫶

We ended the evening with dinner and team time, along with Spot It!, a debrief, and writing thank-you letters for Cosdecol staff. 📝

Colombia Day 6: Excursion Day!! ☀️

We left the soccer club around 9am and drove 2 hours to Guatapé, known for its massive rock (El Peñol) and the beautiful view from the top. Our team climbed 700+ stairs to reach the bright colors of the islands, mountains, and reservoirs. ⛰️

When we got down, we had lunch and went on a 2-hour boat ride. Some team members even jumped in the water for 20 minutes. We then grabbed ice cream and walked around the town. We came back for dinner and our daily team debriefs. 🌊🍦

We loved hearing lots of testimonies on the bus that day and were excited for our last service day the next day! 🫶

Colombia Day 5: We are officially halfway through our trip! 🇨🇴

Today was our earliest morning, with breakfast at 6:30am and a 7am departure!
We first took a bus to the metro station, hopped on the train for about 10 minutes, then took the gondola up as far as it would take us. Then we walked another 20 minutes through the neighborhood on the side of the mountain, until we finally made it to Manantiales - about 6,000ft in elevation! 🚠⛰️

We took a quick rest break in a little cafeteria and heard about Cosdecol’s work there and met some people who are dedicating their time and talents to these efforts. We headed to the soccer field, did introductions, and one of our team members shared a devotional. 🩵

We split up into four groups, with two teams scrimmaging in the 6v6 field and the other two groups doing activities outside of the field with our team members (jump rope, bubbles, velcro ball) before rotating onto the field. ⚽️🫧

We had arroz con pollo for lunch back in the cafeteria with the coaches, pre-packed by our lovely Cosdecol chef Ruth. 🍽️

After lunch, we got to work painting the brick around the inside of the soccer field. A lot of the team members loved this project because we got to see an instant transformation (the kids later thanked us and said they liked the blue color), and we hope that it blesses many people in the future! 🎨

We made our way back to Cosdecol through the evening rush hour, which was a good cultural experience for the team.

We got back and did an evening debrief! Another great day! 🙏🤍

Colombia Day 4: Some of the team woke up early to go to a Pananderia down the street from Cosdecol. We got coffee and pastries as a small snack before breakfast! After a delicious empanada and fruit breakfast (+ juices and coffee, of course), we went on a tour of Seminario Bíblico de Colombia - the seminary where Cosdecol first started.

We headed back to the club for lunch, and then we were off to a neighborhood called Andalucia to join a Cosdecol basketball practice. 🏀

We then ate dinner at the Cosdecol church half a block away and got a tour.
We then joined about 80 kids, U8-U12, for soccer practice and scrimmages! ⚽️

We loved their energy and enthusiasm, and had so much fun playing with them.
For both sessions, one of our team members shared a bit of his testimony with a devotional and hopefully inspired many. 🙏

We ended this sweet day with some ice cream and a team debrief, where the laughs were abundant and relationships evidently deepened. 🤍

Colombia Day 3: Today we spent the morning and afternoon with the Cosdecol coaches! We joined in on their weekly coaches' meeting, which looks like time in worship, hearing a devotional given by one of our participants today, and prayer. 🙏

This was such a meaningful time for our entire team; we not only got to pray together but also asked questions of one another about our lives, which gave us an opportunity to build relationships with the coaches. After the meeting, we had a snack, pan con queso y huevos (bread with cheese & egg) & then spent the rest of the afternoon playing soccer with the coaches! ⚽️

After lunch, we sorted through our donations, and we heard some more of Cosdecol’s story from the founder. After dinner, the guys went to our first neighborhood, Girasol, and got to play soccer with kids ages 7-12. They had a tournament, and it ended with about 30 penalty kicks! 😅

The girls stayed on site and joined the women’s All-Star team’s practice! We wrapped up our night with our team debrief & getting to spend time with the coaches in the morning and players in the evening was unanimously the highlight of our day! 🩵✨

Colombia Day 2: We started our morning off by attending one of the local churches that partners with Cosdecol! ⛪️

We got back to the club and heard from the founder of Cosdecol. He shared about their early history and heart behind this ministry. 🙏

Our group ate lunch & headed to Comuna 13, a historic and artistic part of the city. We had a guided tour and got to try mangobiche, a mango and passion fruit popsicle! 😋

When we got back to club, we had dinner, sorted donations, and had our first team debrief! 🩵

Colombia Day 1: Travel Day!! ✈️🇨🇴

8 members of our team met up in Panama & flew to Medellin together. When we landed we went straight to Cosdecol - also known as Christian Union Sports Club, is the ministry we are staying at and serving with this week!

We were joined by 2 more team members for dinner. After we ate, we laced up our cleats and played 6v6 soccer on the field right outside the dorm rooms. It felt great to move our bodies after 8 hours of travel!

Around 9pm everyone was exhausted and headed to bed😴

A night to remember at Oracle Park! ⚾️💙

Recently, the HFK community came together for a special evening with the San Francisco Giants! It was such a fun way to kick off our annual HFK Retreat Weekend and celebrate our new partnership. 🫶

We’re so grateful for everyone who joined us and helped make our first HFK Night at the Giants one to remember!

🌐 Read more about the night, our partnership, and some of the special moments we shared on the HFK Blog!
