Strategic Synergies in Semiconductor Innovation: San Diego–Tijuana's Competitive Advantage 🇲🇽🇺🇸

Last Wednesday, in collaboration with Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves & Savitch LLP, and ITJ, Tijuana EDC hosted its second Binational Mixer at Procopio's offices in Del Mar Heights. We thank Guru Chinnabhandar (Qualcomm), James Kramer (Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves & Savitch LLP), and Alejandra Nuñez (Secretaría de Economía e Innovación) for sharing their insights. We also recognize Edna Patricia Hernandez, Coordinator of Tijuana EDC's Innovation Committee, for her leadership in organizing this event.

The panel convened regional leaders to discuss how the CaliBaja megaregion can maximize value creation within the North American semiconductor ecosystem. Rather than replicating existing chip manufacturing hubs, the conversation centered on leveraging the complementary strengths of the cross-border region: San Diego's capabilities in chip design, wireless technology, AI, and R&D, and Tijuana's engineering talent, software development, advanced electronics, and manufacturing infrastructure.

Key takeaways from the discussion:

— Targeted value creation through specialized cross-border integration, rather than direct competition with established manufacturing centers.
— Binational synergy between high-level R&D and advanced manufacturing to strengthen supply chain resilience across North America.

We thank all attendees for being part of this conversation and look forward to continuing to build spaces that foster collaboration and the exchange of ideas across our binational megaregion.

Strengthening Regional Competitiveness Through STEAM Education and Public-Private Coordination 🔹

We recently convened our Board of Directors meeting at El Trompo Interactive Museum, led by President Adriana Eguía Alaniz alongside Museum Director Rosario Ruiz Camacho, to advance strategic integration between the industrial sector and local community initiatives.

The session centered on expanding public-private coordination to align industrial growth with early STEAM education, building a long-term talent pipeline for the region's advanced manufacturing sectors. The partnership also provides our industrial members with specialized facilities for executive meetings, B2B networking, and product launches.

We remain dedicated to driving high-value economic development while fostering sustainable community initiatives that strengthen the broader regional ecosystem.

Daikin Alliance Air Products Expands in Tijuana with 270.2 Million USD Investment 🇲🇽🇺🇸

Tijuana EDC President Adriana Eguia Alaniz was honored to join Governor Marina del Pilar Avila Olmeda and industry leaders for the inauguration of the new facility of Alliance Air Products, a member of Daikin Group. This milestone marks a major expansion representing 270.2 million USD in industrial investment for Tijuana, reinforcing Baja California's standing as a strategic manufacturing hub in North America.

We extend our sincere congratulations to Meor, a valued Tijuana EDC member and developer of the industrial park where the new facility is located. This expansion strengthens the region's production capacity for high-capacity data center cooling equipment and industrial HVAC solutions.

Since its acquisition by Daikin in 2023, Alliance Air Products has scaled its workforce from 800 to 3,347 employees, with projections to exceed 8,000 jobs by 2029. Under the leadership of Luis Plascencia, President and General Manager, the company continues to drive specialized talent development and regional supply chain integration.

Additionally, Alliance Air Products achieved a key regulatory milestone as company #001 to utilize the Ventanilla Nacional Digital de Inversiones (VNDI) federal framework, setting a benchmark for streamlined investment processes in Mexico.

Every major expansion strengthens our regional ecosystem, creates high-value opportunities, and reinforces Tijuana and Baja California's competitive position in global trade.

Cali Baja consolidates its global leadership and Tijuana is the key driving force behind this evolution! 📈

🇲🇽🇺🇸 Connectivity and cross-border infrastructure have transformed our region into one of the most dynamic economic and logistics hubs in the world. A clear example of this impact is Cross Border Xpress (CBX), a unique infrastructure that elevates our border's competitiveness:

- Global connectivity: The Tijuana Airport grew historically from 22 to 40 national and international destinations.
- Economic impact: With more than 30 million passengers served, it generates 1.5 billion dollars annually and more than 700 direct jobs.
- Social commitment: It allocates more than 350,000 dollars annually to community projects on both sides of the border.

Tijuana does not just attract investment; it builds the logistics bridges and the talent needed to lead global trade. 🚀✨
