Hello, my name is Sabina Bravo Persons, I am from Michigan and my first experiences with Rio Bravo was as a missioner in 2008, and it changed my life and the life of my family. Over the past 18 years I have worked in the Rio Bravo area and the people there are part of my family. God has blessed my life through the many friends I have made there and now He is blessing my life through the Ahead with Education organization. I just recently got involved with the organization, first as a sponsor, then as I saw and learned more about the people involved and met some of the students and families I felt that this was a ministry that God had led me to. I was asked to join the board as an advisor and I am now the Treasurer. The Ahead With Education program is one of the more meaningful experiences I’ve been involved with in my life.

Introducing another one of our amazing sponsors, Kay Hardin!

My husband and I first traveled to Rio Bravo in 2004 with the “Keenagers” mission group. That trip changed our lives. We returned home deeply moved—and have since returned dozens of times for casita building and medical mission trips. I still serve in Rio Bravo as often as I can.

It was during that first mission trip in 2004 that the seeds of Ahead With Education (AWE) were planted. It started with just one student—one young person who desperately needed help to afford staying in school. At the time, I couldn’t have imagined what God had in store.

Today, AWE supports 55 students, with 15 currently attending college. I don’t think I dreamed big enough back then, but God certainly did.

For the past six years, I’ve had the honor of serving on the AWE Advisory Council and Board of Trustees. Over the years, I’ve had the joy of sponsoring several students. My mom, daughter, and many dear friends have also joined in. Some of the students and their families have become lifelong friends—relationships I cherish deeply.

Supporting Ahead With Education is one of the most meaningful endeavors of my life. God has given me a special love for the people of Rio Bravo, and though I set out to serve, I am the one who has been truly blessed.

Our next Sponsor Spotlight Is Vicki Costanza and her family!

“What a blessing it was to attend my first outreach trip to Rio Bravo, Mexico in 2017, with both of my daughters! Since then, we’ve been able to return year after year, and with every visit, it feels like we leave another piece of our hearts with the incredible people of Rio Bravo. During these trips, we help build casitas for families in need across the community—simple homes that bring safety, dignity, and hope.

It was during that very first trip, as part of the “Keenagers” team, that we were introduced to the amazing Ahead with Education (AWE) organization. We attended our first AWE banquet during that trip in 2017, and we knew immediately that we wanted to step up and sponsor a student. We committed to walking alongside them for the long haul—supporting them all the way through college if that was the path they chose.

Over the years, we’ve had the joy of sponsoring several students. For the past two years, we’ve been especially blessed to sponsor sweet Yatzary—the beautiful granddaughter of one of the maestros who works with our team building casitas. Yatzary is now in third grade, and we are SO excited to see what God has in store for her future!”

Meet Jacob and Linda West!

“Hi! We are Jacob and Linda West. We have been married for 21 years. We share six children. Our first year to Rio Bravo was 2017. That year we met Martha Gonzalas and her family. They touched our hearts right away. It is an honor to sponsor Martha. She excels in her studies and is currently working on earning her college degree.”

We are excited to announce an opportunity for you to more frequently interact with your scholarship students through email messages.

You can write your message in English and we will have it translated into Spanish, so your student can understand it.

We are also offering this same opportunity to the students, so you may be able to receive communication from them more often as well.

We are so thankful that so many of our students and their families were able to make it to our annual AWE banquet this year! Here are our elementary, middle and high school students as well as our college students and our college graduates who are receiving their diplomas soon! We are so proud of all them for their dedication to their education and pursuing a promising future for themselves!
